Firstly, welcome to the forum. 
It appears to be a No1 MkIII, made by BSA. It looks like you have a large crack in the woodwork next to the wrist band, that is unfortunate. It would be worth getting some fresh woodwork if you are going to shoot it. The bedding of the recoil lugs inside the woodwork are important for accuracy. It should not be difficult finding a replacement though. There are many members here who are better versed in these models so they can probably add more info on the details of this rifle. Nice birthday present!!

Thanks! and yeah I found a place to buy replacement parts that sells full wood kits or individuals pieces.
