I usually use a pair of safty glasses from work. and a pair of ear muffs. find them easyer to take off and put on than ear plugs.
cant understand these you ones that think there hearing is indestructable.
my kids will use the gear when im around and hopefully when im not.

I am also a big fan of both ear and eye protection, but sometimes they don't work every time.

Halfway through last year I was cutting some steel on the sh*tty $50 dropsaw the bosses reckon are so good, I was concentrating on the cut and looking down and there was a gap in the sh*tty guard and it threw some iron filings above the top of my safety glasses, and I think it bounced off my head and then off the lens and lodged itself deeply into my eye, almost to the cornea.

I soldiered on for a few days because I couldn't really tell I copped anything in my eye. I normally get a bit of dust in it from drilling into concrete ceilings. By that time my eye was swollen and I had a hard time keeping the thing open and was hurting like buggery, so I knocked off work early and went to see an eye surgeon.

That afternoon the surgeon was digging an Iron filing out with a needle, and yes it was interesting driving round  with an eye so swollen I couldn't see out of the bloody thing.

I now use goggles exclusively, yet I still see people using these bloody dangerous dropsaws without any eye or ear protection on.

I prefer to use earplugs though, I reckon they work better.

When I shoot, and in the future I reload I have a great pair Wiley X SG1 sunglasses/ goggles. I love how you can swap the temples for an elastic headband as well, and you can change the lenses from sunnies to clear as well.

Allan try fitting an ear plug in the ear closest to the rifle right ear if you're right handed. It works for me when we go out shooting. Or get some of the plugs that cut out the blast from a rifle/shotgun and still allow you to hear a conversation. Lot of the lads I shoot with have them and they seem to be happy with them.

Allan,
I use electronic ears they protect over a harmful DB. and will let you carry on a conversation normally.

Every now & again ya get a load of "weak" top-hat caps, for our muskets. They have a nasty habit of spreading & shattering when the hammer hits 'em.Nasty bit of work - since ur right eye, cheek & ear are right there.Cant wear glasses in a re-enactment..but I do use flesh coloured air filled plugs. They cant be seen..but they sure save what hearing I have left when firing in the line!

On big contracts like Camel ,I use Skinners to recover our Kills much the same way as the whaleing fleet work other wise we'd never get anything done ! Problem is getting a good crew together ! Most blokes only ever work with me once unless their any good & have thick skins! These Blokes are on Bloody good money & I expect to get  a decent days work in return! A Lot of them seem to think their out on a sunday school picnic ! I don't think of myself as being a Hard task master,but..............................I don't suffer Fools lightly when it comes to Firearms & other tools of my Craft
