Back in 83 or 84  I shot a moose at about 60 yds with a No5Mk1 Jungle Carbine with old Dominion brand 215 grain RN bullets.
The moose ran up a skidder trail where I was waiting on an old log deck, I had about 4 inches of powdery snow on me.
I saw the moose as it got to the top of the hill, I moved and the snow fell off me, the moose saw the snow fall and stopped.
I flipped the safety off just as he saw me, I fired the first round into his left lung.
He then turned and tried to walk away, I didn't want that to happen, so I shot him again in the right lung.
He did a wobble for about 10 seconds and fell over, he rolled down the skidder trail for about 20 feet with all fours in the air.
The first shot went through the left lung and through  the offside lung and stopped just under the hide, the second bullet went through the right lung and passed through the left lung and stopped under the hide on the off side as well.
A double double lung shot, I recovered both bullets, they looked identical and mushroomed to nearly the size of a dime.
I always wanted more of those 215 grainers but could never find them again, I have since bought some 180 grain Speer RN, they are the same I believe as 303hunter got his deer with, I got a 1.25 inch  group today with my No5Mk1  Jungle Carbine at 75 -80 yds.

Yup, it was old ammo and it worked fine. I was sad when the last rounds went, but they put meat in the  freezer and I'm good with that,Smile

I chanced upon 2 full boxes of Norma 215 grain ammo a few years ago at a local gun show in Chilliwack. I have not used them and most likely won't. To me they are now collector status. I do have a lot of 200 grain hard cast lead 200 grain bullets/she!! casings for reloading. Nice shooting on that moose from years ago. The #5/MK1 in close quarters is a fearsome performer and can drop large game.

true Canuck...but seriously, one doesn't need a heavy bullet like that. I took 2 moose (cow & bull) with 180 gr. few years back. Shot uphill about 80-90 yds away.
Man, those big animals drop fast!

If you reload, you can buy 215grn Woodleigh RN bullets as well as the Lapua 200grn D166/7.62x54R rebated boattail bullets.

The 180 grain Speer RN that I was shooting tonight sure shoot to point of aim, a football sized rock at 200 was a dead center hit, the rear peep sight was used set to the 200 yd mark.

Keep looking, the 215gr. slugs are still out there in the wild.  I bought 100 C.I.L. Kling Kor Soft Point slugs recently.

I found about 100 of these 215 KKSP bullets recently, they shoot the same on target as the 180's only about 2 inches right.
I am getting right around 1900 fps with these giant gobs of lead.
I have had many requests to sell some......I still have'em.

I use the Hornady Interlock 175gr RNSP in my No5. They are .312 and work really well.
My load is 40gr of N540 for 2276fps or 41gr for 2345fps.
I have never hunted with it..
Gil.

Your  jungle carbine will still be working when all other modern firearms are frozen shut, remember that when you are hunting  on a miserable  freezing day.
