I typically use Norma 202 smokeless powder. My backup powder of choice is IMR 4064. Both have the same burn rate. So far I have spent the last week trying to procure some of this elusive gunpowder. Most online sources are out of stock. There is a place in Minnesota that has it but as a local pickup only. My local reloading supply store had a gentleman come in and buy their complete stock of it. If you use IMR4064, find a temporary substitute until this 5hit storm has passed. I have for the time being switched to a slightly faster burning powder for my reloading sessions.

IMR 4894 or H4895 is a good substitute, only slightly faster. 4895 was developed in WWII for the M1 rifle. Varget is very similar to IMR 4064 and meters much better, but probably unobtanium at the moment.
I’ve used 4064 for the .303, it’s a good powder for many rifle cartridges.

It's my favourite (IMR 4064) for the Mosin Nagant, also V good for the .303, but have plenty of Norma # 202 at present. Same burn as Goosic says.
Also have some 4895, Plus an old can of Hercules Hi-Vel military rifle powder, but not sure what data to use for that. Powder is still good but must be getting on!

I have ten pounds of the Norma 202 and eight pounds of IMR3031. I wanted to use the 4064 for my 308 rounds. I guess I have to wait for the zombie apocalypse to subside first.
As a side note however. Based off of a Lyman reloading manual for the 308 Winchester. Using a suggested starting grain of 37.0 of IMR 3031 and using either a 165 or 168grn jacketed partition or HPBT respectively. Your fps is averaged at 2335 and a CUP of 35,000. Using a 150grn SP and a suggested starting grain of 40.0 will translate to a fps of 2544 and a CUP of 36,000. Both way below the 45,000 CUP rating for the Enfield and I believe a perfect load for a 2A1 Ishy...

This is interesting info Goosic.
Does this mean that although 3031 is a faster powder, the lower pressure will mean less chance of throat erosion as well?

I can only assume.
Lyman also states that with a 150grn .311 Jacketed SP and a suggested starting grain of 37.0 with IMR3031 gives you a fps of 2236 and a CUP of 39,600. Still well under the 45,000 SAAMI MAP.

Pukka, my 1960s NRA Reloading Manual has two loads with Hi Vel #2 powder. These should be taken as maximum.

Thanks for the attachment Simon.
I'll have a look at it! Not found anything about that powder on line. Thanks again, R
