Good looking rifle.  Is that a Prestige stock?

Cool, I have the same stock.  However, even after contacting Prestige, I wasn’t told that was an option, non- curved buttstock.

What do you mean by “Inletting the forend reinforcement “?

Yes sir - thank you I stand corrected and duly admonished …Smile

For the sake of accuracy, so to avoid demerits, expulsion or the the snarkiness of “Tony” (whomever that might be) the correct name of the stock company is “Prestigious Wood Stocks” Not  “Prestige”

In response to the question Prestigious Wood Stocks does not make a replacement for the Ishapore 2a or 2a1 (mine is a 2a dated 1964) and I had them modify accordingly and hand fit myself.
According to the Prestigious Wood Stocks website I ordered from:

I ordered and they sent me as in the photograph a Lee Enfield No1 Mklll stock set for My Ishapore 2a
Hopefully this clarifries any discrepancies and any further corrections might be duly addressed to our Canadian friends at Prestigious Wood StocksSmile

for edification purposes only - not to admonish , that was never my intent in my correction , Tony was a member here - now deceased , who was a stickler for proper nomenclature , to his credit his intent was always to have folks here , particularly new members  understand how important that was in this collecting area , he also pointed out my poor grammar once in a PM , i noted it was an intentional USE to make a point and he responded that my intent was not so clear as it should have been , i miss him ,

he and i were/are curmudgeons of the first order to be sure , but his point was always well intended and he was correct in making the POINT - it is crucial in most if not all of our discussions here ,

as he might say it identifies the heathens in our midst

in this case - for what its worth - a no3 mkI would be the pattern 1914 rifle ,

I used to stop in and chat with Mr. Cooper whenever I was in Paulden.  Very easy going and a pleasure to talk to...

Always thought one of these, done properly, would make a good scout rifle.

FrenchKat,

An amazing Ishapore you have there.
Was this something you had a hand in or can we surmise this carbine as issued with India’s 61st Horse Mounted Cavalry sir?

Not mine, I have a 2A and a 2A1, both unmodified.  I got the picture off another old forum.

I’ve looked into these before and here is a brief synopsis; these were not factory modded or originally built, this configuration was never used by the Indians.  What I’d read is that a bunch of these were imported by Gibbs, which was bought by Navy Arms.  Some of the rifles had bad barrels/rifling at the muzzle end.  Instead of scrapping the rifles, they cut the barrels to a shorter length (19.2”) and built into either this mod (Tanker/Bulldog) or the Jungle Carbine style.  The Tanker/Bulldog had a piece cut out of the fore stock just forward of the outer band.  The remaining pieces were glued together.  The had a habit of launching the nose cap down range.

I bought my 2A1 with the intention of attempting this mod sometime down the road.  Even picked up a couple of spare barrels.  My gunsmith abilities are up to it, but not my woodworking skills.

Like I said, this info came from the internet so it must be true😛.

I’m sure someone here knows more of the story then me.
