I have collected Lee Enfields for a number of years but have never seen one converted to a one piece stock. In my collection of parts and pieces for a time has been a Maltby No4 Mk1 with a damaged butt socket. I tried to repair it by reshaping it and adding some welding but that did not work.
Then I had an idea, maybe good, maybe bad. Why not cut off the badly bent socket, practise my welding and then attack a piece of wood with a knife and a file? I did this. My welding was not up to standard so I drew out on paper what I thought should be added and talked to a more skilled welder. I now have a one piece stock 4/1 and pics are attached. I have taken it to a local range once and it appears to work no worse than the average LE 4/1. |

It has been done before. A British gunsmith called Whitaker converted some for target shooting using one piece stocks. There was one for sale last year for about 450 pounds I think; it was made from a No4Mk1T. probable the cheapest "T" you could find these days; but not restorable unfortunately. Looks like you've made a nice job out of what was a damaged rifle. Well done.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

They always look so strange in a one piece configuration. Good job on making the rifle useable again though. Looks to be a nice sporting rifle now.

That sight looks like one of the windage adjustable ones SARCO was selling. |

No. The pivot axis had the be reamed out to take the larger diameter windage adjustment shaft & a hole had to be drilled for the detent spring & ball. For a No4 (or 5) you removed the flat base & discarded it.

They are okay. They do not give you the diversity that the PH target fights give you though.

The PH4 or AJP 8/53 will achieve the same thing without irreparably changing your rifle. |

Or. You can forego it all and modify an original Mk1 sight, drill out the pin holes to accommodate the adjustment screw, and then go from there...

Yeah, but you still have to ream & drill the receiver.
