Commies!

As some of you may know I work for the state water utility here in Sydney.

Any way I live in Cronulla which is just down the road from Kurnell where they are building a desalination plant to help solve part of our water supply problems.

Any way I walked out the door around 0600 this morning and jumped into the work van I had over the weekend, which was parked on the street. Any way I drive off down the road and I hear "thunt thunk thunk" so I pull over to have a look, and both of the left hand tyres are flat, so I drive back to out the front of my place (no more than 100m)

I get the little air compressor that works on a ciggy lighter plug and try to pump up the rear left tyre and after it half inflates it wont go further, so I pull off the compressor and there is a hissing noise. I then find two holes that look exactly the right size to be from a pocket knife.

Any way I find the spare tyre and put that onto the front left. Then all the real fun and games start. I ring the fleet management company , who tell me ring another number as the car has been vandalised.

So I ring the other number and.... nothing.... just get put on hold for ages because I doubt anyone would be in the office (this was about quarter to 8).

So I jump on the phone to the fleet management company again and again explain what has happened and then I get put on hold till they can "get authorisation".

They then tell me I can get a tow to somewhere to get tyres. I ask them where I should go and they tell me to organise it!

I said "Isn't that meant to be your job?" and the operator asks me if I want to have it taken to a tyre place a good 20 to 30 mins away, when there are a heap of tyre places in the industrial area (Tarren Point) 10 mins away.

I then ask for a place in Tarren Point, and they give me a number to call for a tyre place. I am then ask them "Is there a way I can contact you again without having to go through the 500 questions again" Thankfully they say yes and give me a job number.

So I ring the number they gave me and.... its disconnected. I then swear a bit and then grab the local yellow pages and ring a place that I get all my tyres and mechanical work done and they are actually quite useful, and have the tyres I need in stock.

Back onto the Fleet Company and I tell them I have a place sorted for the tyres and they say they are sending a tow truck "within the hour" and I make sure to request a table top truck, because it is a big bloody van and I was half expecting them to send a F150 tow truck or something, even when it said it was a big bloody van on their computer.

Any way an hour and a half passes and no tow truck, so I get on the blower again to them. Turns out the tow truck was on its way "12 mins ago"

I didn't mind too much because I got to go inside, have a good breakfast, listen to some music, and read a good few chapters of a book I am reading about the Burma road in WW2. Those blokes who fought in the Burma theatre must have been real bad arses.

Tow truck turns up after 1 and 3/4 hours, and I am off to get tyres. Thankfully the bloke I spoke to on the phone at the tyre place had everything set aside and was ready to get everything sorted with minimal stuffing about.

An hour later I am off on my way to take this van back to the bloke who drives it normally at Shell Harbour (down in Wollongong, near Al's place), and I pick up a different ute from Port Kembla (central Wollongong, near the coal port and steel works) and I am off driving again to Sydney.

what a bloody start to the day mate..hey i like your theory though..meh, im going back inside to chill whilst im on the clock card. good stuff.
months ago i was in the steel works and i ran over a well hidden(grass and dirt over the top) concrete man hole cover about 2 metres in diameter in the truck..needless to say 10 tonnes of truck goes through inch thick concrete real easy.
so the truck was sitting on the front cross member drivers side wheel just floating in a now exposed pit.
phone call to boss-boss phones tow truck-boss rings me to say tows on the way.
me -pulling up a nice green grassy area and kick back and chill for a few hours on the clock card..
and who says workin for the man is hard? LOL

Yeah it would have been slashed by some long haired bloody anti desal plant hippys.

I really cant understand these people.... they slash the tyres of a van the belongs to a state company that is having a bloody subcontractor (veolia... grrrrr) building a plant to secure their water supply and therefore their life.

There are signs on the road out to the Kurnell peninsula saying "no desal plant' and "desal plant = global warming"

FFS it is just a bunch of well meaning but misguided "greenies" and some Kurnell NIMBY's (Not In My Back Yard). Thing is the place they are building this plant is on the other side of the dirty big bloody oil refinery out there, near a swamp, under the flight path and near some high voltage power lines, its not smack bang in the middle of the houses there.

As they say if you argue with an idiot they will only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

My great Uncle basically raised me...dairy farmer from Macarthur Victoria, look it up, middle of nowhere.....He was a survivor of the Burma Railway. He died a few years ago, cancer. I turned up and stayed with him for a week before he passed on....I showed up in uniform...he had not seen me for about 20 years at that time. He never, ever spoke about his experiences, this week we had together, he told me many, many things, including things you don't ever want to hear. He saw good mates executed for no reason in front of him, he had more mates than he could count die in his arms. He, and his early influence was why I always wanted to be a digger...no regrets there! Funny thing is, he got smashed after shearing and crashed his ute into the hotel he had just left.....judge gave him a choice, since he was strong, young, fit and an excellent shot.....the army or jail....easy choice....he thought!! See if you can find his name in your book Hatch...Reginald Charles Joseph......my kid has his middle name. I loved this guy...they don't come any more generous, nice and deadly!!

Well Roo, I have finished the book mate.

It does have a chapter on the prisoners of war, but was mostly about the allied construction of the Ledo road and the battles they had to fight to do so.

I still fail to comprehend how anyone can treat another person as cruelly as those guards did those POW's.

They POW's must have been made of a lot sterner stuff than I am, respect.

Try reading the Knights of Bushido hatchet.  That give you a lot of detail as to the "pleasantries" dished out to allied pows.  Small wonder a lot of the vets hate the Japanese!

Mate! Having been through this sort of Crap, many time over the years ! Fuel stolen or dumped ,Equipment trashed ,Called every name under the sun ! I know where your coming from! I just for the life of me work out why these idiots behave this way ?????? A desal plant will supply much needed water (not that these Tree huggers need it for anything but drinking ) Yet if it looks to be the solution these retards scream & yell about it ! I watched with intrest once of a protest about a new mobile Phone tower . The Protesters were using mobile phones to ring their mates to join the protest ! Go figure that one out ! Anyway I suppose Dick Smith has lots of money to hire dole bludgers to protest !
