Question does a Number 4 mark 1 magazine, fit a Number 4 Mark 3? I found a mag for sale, but just one so far. Looks close to the same.
and then for an MLE is that magazine special? as the Mark 4 mark 3 Magazine seems like it fits it too. The bolt cycles and the latch works to hold the mag in. hopefully they are not all different. If you have Lee's without bolts, are they just paper weights then or Parts guns?

the no4 mag is different than the no1 mkIII* if that is what you are asking , the mags for both were fit to the rifle and are not interchangeable with either , they were fitted to the rifle specifically , were never intended to be dropped just recharged from the chargers , that said please elaborate as to if this answers as there are others here that might to want to add more , im sure you can tune your mag to your rifle with the proper info , there are others here that have the experience and will help with your efforts

If your asking if a magazine for a No4Mk1 will fit in a No4Mk1/2, No4Mk2, or No4Mk1/3? Yes it will. It is the same magazine. The rifle designation Mk1/2, Mk1/3,and Mk2 just lets you know that the rifle was upgraded to the trigger being mounted to the wrist/buttsocket. You will need to fit it to your rifle however. As was stated earlier. The rifle had the original magazine it came with, fitted to that rifle and was never intended to changed or swapped out with another one.

again - nomenclature confusion rears its ugly head , sorry if i sidetracked based on your terms , but all magazines were hand fitted to the rifle , they are not interchangeable as the US market thinks of it , glad you have joined us here to add to the discussion
yes , the MLE magazine is different , as are the SMLE no1 mkIII/III* and the no4s

thanks for the info guys, I didn’t know each one was fitted for a specific gun, that is wild. Too bad I have 4 rifles, all without magazines and 3 without bolts. Bummer.

Big B.
I do not believe you are understanding what is being explained to you. If you have four Enfield rifles with no magazines. You can in fact get a replacement magazine and fit them to your rifles. You just have to get it to feed the cartridges reliably by finessing the tabs on the magazine. Same can be said for the bolts. You can fit a bolt that was not matched originally to the rifle by simply checking for proper locking lug contact to the reciever. As long as you have proper contact between the locking lugs and reciever, you are good to go. Any competent gunsmith can do that for you.

this is good news. I will have to find some mags and bolts to complete these 4 Lee’s. The old lady who gave them to me told me her son removed the bolts he mags to make them safe. Then lost the bag when they moved. Bummer. But now I know I can find replacements(i hope) the search begins. I found a mag in Calgary and am going to pick it up today. 1 down, 3 to go.

Please bear in mind that not just magazines but bolts also need some hand fitting to work safely & properly. Most
of it is simple stuff, like bending sheet metal & swapping out a
few parts but you do have to know what you're doing & have the right
tools & gauges to do it. These rifles were from a pre Plug 'n play era & hand fitting was pretty much normal back then. Bolts & bolt heads are not interchangeable either between the various sub versions of the Rifle No1 & the Rifle No4's model series. Magazines for the No1 MkIII/ No1 mkiii*, aka SMLE, aka ShtLE, (all the same just naming differences) on the right, notice how the ribs go all the way to the base-plate. On the left the magazine for the No4 Mk1, No4 Mk1*, No4 Mk2, No4 mk1/2, & No4 Mk1/3 & the No5 Mk1. the ribs stop short slightly before the base plate. There are functional differences but the rib design change is a big, obvious visual clue even when inserted in a rifle. ![]() |

If you find a suitable replacement bolt for the No4 rifles. I suggest you test it in each of the rifles to check for the recoil lug contact. You may get lucky and find it suits one of them without much work.
Ideally; finding a new old stock bolt would be best. Not sure if that will be easy to find though! |

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice!

if you have a no4 mk1/3 [it is a conversion to mk2 , then the no4 magazine box will fit ,
the no1 mk!!I , III* , and mk3 [indian] will not , everything above you have been told still applies , im sorry if i in any way misled , hope this helps , i dont want you buying a bunch of mag boxes you do not need , the box remains with the rifle once fitted and are not like american rifles where you drop and plug multiples into an interchangeable parts rifle , these are fitted and intended to stay with the rifle - charged from the top , i know there is often a lot thrown at you at once on this site - there is a lot to learn , read then if you have questions ask , we are here to help - not hinder or confuse

no worries A Square 10, there is a sh*tload of info to learn for sure. Hard to keep track of all the different variations for sure. I just need to track down one more magazine and I should be good to go. Once I get the screws from Numrich parts. Should be good. Thanks for all the input. Hope you enjoy my bayonet shots, under the bayonet tag. Thanks again.

thanks - i did not , nor did anyone else , want to confuse further , as you say , there is much to learn and often we are misled by the nomenclature applied by new folks , we always want to provide the very best responses to anyone that asks a question here , we have a tendency to get astray and add levity in places that sometimes gets confusing , but we mean no harm only to be as helpful as possible , i just wanted to make sure i had not add to any confusion to your question ,
we really do appreciate your joining us and as you go along you will get the levity - sometimes inside jokes at each other , we also add info and correct it as needed among ourselves as we have all been throwing stuff at each other for years but ...most important , we want you to have the very best response , i was fearing that you might spend cash on something that wouldnt work based on wrong interpretations on our part , we never - ever - intend for something like that to happen , we all have done that over the years and do not wish that upon anyone else , that said , i hope you succeed in getting what you need soon , if i had what you needed i would send it to you , but ive recently divested most of my collection [im getting old] and no longer have any spares of much of anything , the longer your here , the more you will know us , there are many like me that will share what we know and what we have available ,
