   I just bought this No. 4 MK 1 and need some head reading the markings to learn its history

The markings on the receiver are 
A 69
AZ 11297

There’s no date anywhere on the rifle I can find

There’s also several numbers on the bottom of the magazine that have been crossed out except for the rifles serial no.

	With an AZ prefix it must be a Royal Ordnance Factory Maltby manufactured rifle. There should be a date stamped on the butt socket.

	No date on buttock plate that I can find, but just found a very very faint and shallow 1943 stamp just above the serial no. Prefix

	The first digit being a 1 also says Maltby.
