he!!o!

First time posting, long time lurking.

I am thinking about upgrading my 1942 Savage No4 Mk1* from it's original wartime configuration to using a new aftermarket Monte Carlo stock with an NDT SK scope mount.

i have two questions:

1) The upper handguards and longer forend on the wartime configuration that cover the barrel, if I remove them will I have to clean and lube my rifle more often because the barrel would now be exposed?

2) I have the idea to keep the original items in a metal shock box and swap between configurations when I feel like it.

Does anyone else do this or am I just asking for trouble should just stick with one configuration? I want to make the rifle a shooter, but I also want to keep the hardware to sell as a stock wartime rifle should I ever choose to sell it. Not to mention I'd like to be able to throw it back in WW2 config once in a while.

All opinions are welcome.

Cheers
