We went to see the Robert Downey Jr. version of "Doolittle" today.

I know its been panned by several critics & yes, it differs from the Rex Harrison version quite a bit.
BUT!
Go anyway, seriously its a different take, a bit more serious, a bit more adult, not as “simple” & some would say more sophisticated.
If you liked His humor & take on the two Sherlock Holmes movies, then you'll like this one too. It has that same irreverent touch of slightly “off Kilter” humor that he does so well. For example the Whales all have an accent from Wales!
I'm trying not to give any spoilers, so this may sound cryptic till you see the movie. The Dr has a Welsh accent too, but I couldn't figure out why, except for the really obscure joke towards the end involving a leek. I can say no more.
There are a couple of plot holes, but go with the willing suspension of disbelief for this, after all we have a man speaking dozens of animal languages, so go the extra step for his missing wife.
Give it a shot I don't think you'll be disappointed as long as you take it with a grain of salt.

Ahh! sorry bout that. Its just "Doolittle", not "Dr Doolittle". I guess to distinguish it from the Eddie Murphy ones?
