Pop quiz. What scoped rifle did Anthony Quinn use in The Guns of Navarone? It looks like it has burlap cammo, but judging by the butter knife bolt my guess is Mannlicher-Shoenauer?

Hard to tell wrapped.
IMDB guns just calls it "Unknown, possibly a K98 sporter".

Shamu. I looked at pics that came up on the Internet. Front site definitely not an Enfield. There was one picture of the bolt. Looked like a butter knife. Also, the mounts and scope line reminded me of a 6.5x53 Mannlicher-Shoenaur that was for sale at a recent gun show in my town. Interesting. The seller said cycle the bolt. No rifle on the planet smoother. I declined, saying I already had the smoothest, fastest bolt action rifle ever to be designed.

Yeah I agree, sadly there are very few images of it, for most of the movie he carries a Sten & a bandolier of bottleneck rifle cases!
Ermm
The MS bolt is a good second.
Gibbs in Bristol had a custom one they were building for a big time safari type guy I got to play with. I want one in 7X7, but at the prices they go for its just a dream.
