Shot the Short Range Silhouette game again last Saturday. Shot 24/40 which is an improvement over last time.
9 Chickens, 8 Pigs. 2 Turkeys and 5 Rams. Making steady improvements and the gun is working very well. Also my load of 16 gr of 2400 with Lyman 314299GC is proving to be accurate and shooting clean. Looking forward to next month. Randy

Shot the Long Range Silhouette today with some PPU Factory 150 gr Factory Ammo (I needed the cases fire formed.)
I got 3 out of 40, and shooting iron sights at 200-500 meters offhand does pose some challenges. The Front Sight typically covers the entire target. Had a good time and the gun is still performing very well. In fact I enjoy shooting this one more than most of my other guns. For now anyway. I have to tell you guys, that Limbsaver Slip On Recoil Pad takes the bite right out of this gun. I fired 40 rounds of Factory ammo today with nothing more than a Tee Shirt between it and my shoulder. No ill effects whatsoever. Randy

I know that 3/40 doesn't sound like many hits. But the high shooter yesterday with a scope sighted rifle was 11. We have one guy who shot 6/40 with a Marlin .30-30 with open sights! We all cheered when he connected with a 500 Meter Ram. We had a guy shooting a 71/84 Mauser with Black Powder of crossed sticks he only got 2/40 but he is 94 years old so he gets a pass. He got 6 last month.
It's a good time and we have a decent core group of about 15 guys who show up regularly on the first Saturday. Our Short Range Shoot lost it's leader 2 years ago and hasn't recovered it's good attendance yet. They run the Rimfire Match along side of it, and since I've won that for the last 3 years I changed to the High Power Short Range or Cowboy Match. been shooting he Enfield with Cast Boolits in that up til last time when I shot my Marlin 1894 CB in .44 magnum. Had no Cast Boolits loaded for the .303 so I had to do something different. I am piecing together an NRA Sporter Replica made with an 03A3 barreled action. I just got one of the final pieces of the puzzle last week which was the Barrel Band, and have had the Buttplate for about a year. I will have Boyd's make the stock soon and I should be up and running shooting Cast Boolits with that gun maybe by the end of the year. This gun has been a goal of mine for quite a few years but the prices on real ones are pretty ridiculous. So building one,,, kind of like I did with my "L39 replica" which is what I'm calling my #4 Mk1,,, is the way to go for me. Same enjoyment as far as shooting, but not wearing out or beating up a collectors piece. Here's a pic of what I'm going for on that gun. This one is a build up as well by one of my Buddies in Texas. The stock is new and the Bolt Handle has been altered. I had to blow the pic up a little and the grain of the wood suffered in the translation, but this gun is absolutely beautiful in person and a real good shooter as well. It's this type of stuff that interests me most about shooting. I shoot AR's ,Shotguns and Pistols as well, but I actually get to build these guns and shooting something you put together yourself is pretty fulfilling. Randy |

There are a lot of shooters who only judge shots from a bench, on sandbags.
If they tried 3 position or standing unsupported they'd understand a lot more about group sizes. ![]() |

Shot the Long Range Silhouette game again yesterday. Another 3/40 performance. I simply can't get the gun to go off at the right time.
I have to tell you though with no BS I was within 6" of 80% of the targets at all ranges. I was using 180 gr PPU Factory ammo which the gun seems to like. I am now out of that so I will have to load some ammo for that gun. My last time out (Sept) I shot my reloads using 150 gr Hornady Spitzers with 39.5 gr of Varget and shot 5/40 which is my record so far in that game. The gun liked that round. I have 250 more of those bullets, but I also want to try some 174 gr Round Noses. I have heard they work really well in these guns. I have 200 of those. Once again I've got to tell you guys, that Limbsaver Slip on Recoil Pad makes shooting 40 full power rounds thru this gun completely painless. It is super squishy and soaks up the recoil better than any of the other pads I have used. For the Enfield Buttstock you need the "Medium Sized Pad" It fits perfectly! $25 at Walmart. This gun is proving to be most enjoyable, and for those who don't already know. The Redfield International Sight that I mounted on this gun makes dialing the gun in for the different ranges Easy and Repeatable. With a 200 yard zero I used 12.75 MOA for 500 meters, 7.5 for 385M 4.0 for 300M and .5 for 200M. I have all of this written down in my little Sinclair Sighting Booklet so that I can return to the correct settings for each load I shoot quickly and easily. I also made a mount for a buddy in AUS. He has the same sight , and claims it is the best sight ever mounted to an Enfield. He says they were quite "Chuffed" with it. I tend to agree. ![]() Randy
