I have a large orange cat that takes care of rabbits and others outside pests.

Some time the pests are to large for the cat. He comes with twin pit bull back up.

If that does not work he calls out the mule.

I grew up with cats, never had a dog. I would love a good mouser (not that we have mice) but my wife is Uber anti-pet!

Just tell her, and it is true, people who own cats and dogs live longer.

Just ask her this question, " what do you like better in the house a live mouse or a dead mouse? ".

Also having a cat keeps your food supply safer and if you have a house fire a cat goes nuts.

When I was little about six and I lived in Navy housing one of the room electric heaters started to smoke. Out cat sounded like a tank trying to get out of the house.

Everyone was asleep and we all got out fast!

September.1955: My mom's black cat (Ebbs -short for Ebony) saved my life.
I was outside in my little crib. The subdivision was new..carved out of orchards. Big rat came up out of Walker's creek, & was making right for me. (Normally, big rats are more than a match for a cat.) My mother caught a glimpse of the rat as it was heading toward me (she was in house doing dishes). By the time she got to the back door, Ebbs had already taken the throat out of the rat & was dragging it to the door. The rat was easily twice his size. Having been born at a very early age - I don't remember this episode.

Ebbs was cool..6 toes on each paw. Later on we took Ebbs north to my grandmother's to live(Victoria Harbour). he lived out his long life up there fishing & hunting. He was jet-black. Pretty cool cat.

Cats are a lot to our lives.

Well worth our life to have them with us.

As no one I know of these days eats black jelly beans I use them with a sling shot.

With a wrist rocket and black jelly beans you can send pests off to someone else yard.

I used to use steel ball bearing but it you run over a steel ball bearing with a lawn mower it becomes a bullet.

GREAT for killing free rats!

I have a t-shirt that says "We got rid of the kids.  The cat was allergic."

Have seven (God help us) rescue cats currently.  Oldest to youngest: One "Tuxedo" from a dumpster at a Duncan Donuts,  one super-friendly tiger that had been chewed up and what we feared was a tumor turned out to be a kidney outside the muscle but under the skin, one three-legged black cat that had a measured 14" of stitching (on a half-shaved two month old kitten) done pro-bono by a vet - the shelter knew we took in "problem" cats.  You never saw a sorrier cat.  He's huge now (Moe - needs one 'moe leg).  One found eating greasy McDonalds litter in a ravine (long-haired black female - beautiful cat now - not so much then), one last survivor that was a mess from a litter that had been wiped out by a Rottweiler and, at four weeks +/-, needed a LOT of TLC.  And finally two from our barn.  We get "presents" and a mother cat was hanging around I assume dropped off like the tires and Christmas Trees good Christians leave along our road frontage.  We set out food.  One day I found a tiny black kitten in our chicken coop and something had torn a flap of skin loose on his throat.  He was a mess (sound familiar).  I took him in and "farmer doctored" him up with the same first aid/medical cabinet I put together for our sheep (and myself more than occasionally).

THE ADMIRAL said "he's not coming in the house" so out he went to the barn.  Well, one day I saw him in the front yard at the same time THE ADMIRAL saw him in the back yard.  Twins!  And eventually we spotted a very cautious gray kitten.  We put the word out and did get one adopted off.  The black male by then had gotten so he would sit on my lap on the back deck and follow me around the homestead.  Friendly cuss.  The gray skedaddled whenever we were out.  Got to be about 10 weeks from when we had first seen the (no sign of mom for two months) and we didn't want a new batch, so we started calling around to see who might neuter strays.  Turns out NO ONE in this area does.  So we negotiated with our current vet and got a agreement that we would get the two cats in, no prior exam, no bloodwork, just as short and dirty a job as "ethical" ( I miss our first vet who would castrate males while you held them, struggling).  By then we had them coming for food.  The black one was easy.  He didn't mind being picked up.  Happily I had the forethought to put on cuffed leather gloved for the gray (female).  HOLY CRAP!  This 10 or 11 week old kitten shrieked and bit down on my finger like a pair of pliers and did all she could to rake my guts out with her hind legs.  I could not believe the strength in this little floof!

Well, that was last fall.  Tonight as I watched the news that gray girl was curled on my lap for an hour.  She just loves head skritches,  Sweetest little thing and a beautiful little Maltese with copper eyes (Gracie).  Her brother, Tink, the opposite of knit as he loves to help THE ADMIRAL with her knitting is as pleasant a guy as you could ask for and on his way to being a big cat.  Even more amazing is they both get along with all the other fur hobos hereabouts.

Oh, and one Airedale Terrier who tries to keep the cats from having it too soft.  He loves to play "try and scratch my eyes out while you have the high ground" (aka: couch) with the longhaired black female (Cricket) and, I gotta say, he is FAST!

Getting back on the thread topic....it has been announced today, May 5,2020 that 10 gauge shotguns and 12 gauge shotguns with screw in chokes are now banned!! The reasoning is without the choke installed, the 12 gauge barrel diameter exceeds the new 20mm requirement. Also, firearms that exceed a power output of more than 10,000 joules is prohibited. Say good bye to your big bore hunting rifles like the 460 Weatherby, etc. The feds once again LIED about not touching hunting firearms in their new ban. I expect a revolt, in fact I hope there is a revolt!

Your statement. (The reasoning is without the choke installed, the 12 gauge barrel diameter exceeds the new 20mm requirement.)

This would indicate that all 12 gauge rifles not choked would be banned. My Winchester 1400 MkII has a rifled slug barrel that would be considered  a definitely banned item. If anyone wants it PM me. I stuck a Ted Williams choked barrel on it instead cuz bunnies is year round here...

So my side-by-side 12 gauge is now banded?

Hoadie, they only mentioned removable chokes. Check your shot guns, measure the inside diameter. I checked my shot guns they measure under 20mm, even my Mossberg 590A1. You should be okay with your side by side but do measure it.
