he!!o all--
Thank you for keeping this forum up. It looks like a great resource for Enfield owners. I recently acquired a number of old rifles, shotguns and pistols from an estate. Let me start by saying that I know little to nothing about older rifles, shotguns, etc. I am 67 y.o. and have been shooting most of my life, but I own and shoot S&W revolvers, 1911s and own the odd Rem 700/870, and a few others. Oldest rifle I own is a Glenfield Model 60 that I bought (used) in 1983 or so. Anyway...doing some looking and some reading here (and other places) and trying to identify what I have. Several of the rifles are milsurps, and I think I have 2-3 Mk4 No1s (one marked Golden State Arms Santa Fe Model 1944) plus an Eddystone. All have been sporterized. (And then a couple of Mausers, and .22s, but those will be pursued separately...) As I continue, I will likely take some better pics, and then post them and ask if you can help verify my research/identification on each. Also, any bits of knowledge (for instance, it seems that the GSA may be 30-06 instead of .303, but I will need some cartridges to verify....my caliper used at the muzzle end gives me .308/309, so it could be either cartridge, right? I don't see any stampings to indicate cartridge, as is so prevalent on modern arms. Okay, again, thank you for the resource and I'll be back to read and ask questions. Best regards, Rich |

Welcome aboard Rich! I live in the DFW area too and can certainly help you with ID'ing any rifles you own. I'm a member of the 407 Gun Club in Argyle where I work up handloads for my various Lee Enfield and other rifles. The Eddystone you say you have, if in .303 British is a Pattern 14 if in .30-'06 is a Pattern 17. Very easy to determine. If a Pattern 17 it will say U.S. Model of 1917 on the receiver, if a Pattern 14 it will simply say ERA and a serial number on the receiver.

The "Santa Fe" marked one is a commercially made sporter. They had a good reputation & are garnering a collector following.

I may have to come down and check your range out. What's the longest range one can shoot at?

its a "censor" type of arrangement. As a family friendly site, anything that is related to "vulgarity" is altered.
I'm sure we can all live with it. |
