The Peddled scheme rifles differ from the other factories on the wrist stamps. The Factory identity is stamped with the date and cypher.
Because the Peddled scheme rifles are made from parts supplied by different factories; no makers mark on the wrist! So these would have there factory i.d. stamped on the rear of the receiver. SSA or NRF.

Not that i would ever in a million years think of getting rid of it. Just curious what is it worth now that its been sporterized and a peddle scheme rifle. I mean its price less to me but still would like to know. I hate the fact that someone cut the stock but at least they did a decent job

The number above the screw on the brass disc is the date of issue.

Sling swivel screws are all the same "3BA" IIRC? You could easily put a stamped (not cast) rear sling swivel on that forend & have the use of a sling. ![]() Or, if your bottom metal has one of these cast swivel fittings just a swivel like this one.

I found out a little more history about rifle thats kinda interesting. I went and sat with my grandmother for a bit sunday for mothers day. I got to telling her about asking all you guys about info on the rifle and to my surprise she told me the story of how my granddaddy aquired the rifle and why it was sporterized. It surprised me because my grandma dosent talk about granddaddy to much. He wasnt a very nice guy and treated her pretty bad until she got the nerve to divorce him. But i digress.
So after grandaddy retired from the navy he became a revenuer busting up moonshine stills here in union and surrounding counties in north central Florida. During an investigation he was watching a still from a tip by the land owner. Apparently the old farmer found the still on his property and reported it. Grandaddy and a couple other agents hid in a barn and waited til the men making the moonshine came back to make the whiskey. While waiting in the barn grandaddy noticed the rifle. After granddaddy and the other agents made the arrests the old feller gave the rifle to my grandaddy. After getting it home and all cleaned up he realized the the hand gaurds were broken he took it to a gunsmith and thats when it got sporterized. Good news it was done by aan actual gunsmith bad news it was done. Oh well at least he only had the stock cut and not the barrel too. Sorry it turned into a novel but thought id share the story.

Cool background history story on the old rifle. ![]() My best estimate in today’s market from watching Gun Broker etc etc would be $450.00 as a Sporter no (drill & tap etc) In the original setup form & all matching S/N’s etc,it prolly would of gone north of $1,200.00+ to the right buyer. Cheer’s.

So it has the cast fitting not the wire loop! ![]() Is the hole threaded on one side? Not all were. If it isn't no biggie they also make replacement main screws with a sling swivel built in! |

Yes the one missing the sctew has the cast fitting with the loop its just missing rear screw. And their is not one at all on the front since it has been sporterized.
I would need the one like whats in the picture so i can attatch it to the mount infront of the magazine also like the picture

It's great to get the history from your Grandma! Makes it all the more interesting.
As a matter of interest, what is the butt plate made of? I ask, because on my SSA rifle (also 1918). It has a steel plate with the trap cover being brass. These are only found on some of the Peddled scheme rifles.

what a great keepsake to pass on in the family after you enjoy it , id leave it as is , it appears someone thought enough to do a good job sporting it and cared enough to preserve most of it , i bet it has some hunting stories if you could get it to tell them ,

You could "fake out" a new front with a complete rear, & get either the
one shown or a king screw with one fitted, & then use the "cavalry
sling" method.
