I recently acquired a rifle from my father, who he said found it in a field when he was in his 20's. I'm trying to identify it in hopes of learning its history but sadly I'm quite uneducated when it comes to firearms. I was hoping that perhaps you fine people could help shed some light on it. He says its a 303 British but thats all he knew. I took some pictures of any marking I could find to help identify it.

Yes/no.
It is an "Enfield", but not a "Lee-Enfield". There was a series of designs variously known as the "P-14" for Pattern 14, or "M1917" to the US. They were known as "American Enfields" & are basically a Mauser copy with no interchangeable parts between them & the Lee-Enfield design. If yours is really in .303 British its a P-14, because the American version, the M1917 was in 30.06. The one you show has been "sporterised" by having wood removed & other changes to make it more like a hunting rifle. More stuff about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pattern_1914_Enfield |

My P-17 has been sported just like that one , except they cut the front sight protector wings down and they filed the sight down on the rear sight ....

In the 3rd photo, it appears to have the British Ministry stamp on it, as well.

the one you show is an "eddystone" by the ERA marking which also is indicative of a pattern 14 rifle as is the brass marking disc in the buttstock ,
it shoots the 303 cartridge , it originally had volley sights -and looks like it might retain its rear one , and if the barrel is original you have a candidate for restoration , my eddystone is on the bottom here , the other two are M1917s |
