   New member. I have purchased a Savage No.4 Mk.1* (55C3167). The rifle has a stock disc marked N^Z 087. The rifle is in very good condition with all matching numbers. It appears to have fired only a few rounds but the butt-plate and screws are well worn, so I am guessing it may have been a rifle that has mostly been used for drill purposes (?). Any information would be appreciated thanks.

	That should be the 553,167th rifle manufactured at Savage's Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts plant. Is it marked "US property" anywhere? If so, then it would be a "lend lease" rifle. From the 55 prefix that should be a mid-1943 rifle. (1943 was 40 to 84.) Can you post any pictures? Welcome to the forum.
