Good afternoon,

I inherited a No.1 Mk III* from my grandfather a couple of years ago and I'm trying to find out which year it was manufactured.

I know it was made by the Birmingham Small Arms Company Limited some time between 1915-1918 (they reintroduced the magazine cut-off after WW1) or 1933 and 1953. It also has a crown with "BM" under it which stands for the Birmingham Proof House where it was tested and certified for 'Military' use.

I also read that the 'U' with the arrow inside it means "Union of South Africa". There are various other markings, but I do not know what they mean or what year it was made.
