I like the handguard you posted. I have always liked arsenal repaired wood. I think it's neat.

I really want to do one on the '14 Beezer. There's a chipped ding on the left hand side of the stock, just in front of the charger bridge & I have a piece of donor wood. I'm waiting for a miracle though, a piece of the threaded repair wire. ![]() Its
a simple spot & I have the fine saws, sharp chisels & sandpaper
to make the part & fit it. I hate to do something cheesy like long
fine screws with the head cut off, though |

You could pin it with small brass rods. I have always liked that type of repair.

I think it actually needs the threads to "grip" firmly enough?

Something that can be done is to thread a small piece of brass rod with a die. Some of this brass rod thats available today is kind of hard to thread becuase its brittle/needs annealed. So what I have done in the past is heat it up with a torch and sometimes that will do it with a couple of tries becuase its fiddly to all hold together. You can thread it into the repair with a drill brace and wood glue, a power drill or cut a slot into it and use a tiny screw driver with the larger diameter rod. Make the top off with a file after a close snip and then brass black it to hide the nail/screw or leave it brite to age on its own. The problem is finding the right type of brass stock to work with for the dies you have on hand.

Brownells makes a stock repair kit that comes with threaded brass pins.
