One of the biggest moose I ever shot was with an all original No1Mk111, one shot to make him stop walking, one more to make sure he didn't walk any further. Put the bullet in the engine room and sharpen your skinning knife.

So far, for the last 40 years. Never lost a deer shot with a British .303.

I filled a Doe Tag on opening day with my No1MkIII Lithgow, dated 6/27. One shot through the lungs at about 40 yards, and down. No meat damage. I traded for the rifle in the early 1970's, it was very crudely chopped. Only gave $15 for the old gal. I cherried it out with a Fajen stock, and open sights, all steel, from a Remington 700. Bead blasted and matte blued by a local gunsmith. Five round magazine by Pro-Mag. Since 1974 she's filled countless deer and turkey tags. Standard deer load is 36.5 grains IMR3031 under a Hornady 174 grain RN Interlock, Winchester case, Federal 210 LR primer. Load is well under MAX in deference to the rifle's age, but has always collected deer in one shot. No complaints. Meat in the freezer, 2020.

Great photos everyone! In the three years I have been hunting I have only used iron sights for big game and have taken four deer.
Will be heading out over the weekend as I still have a tag for both White tail and moose to fill and I taking my Lee Enfield. Good luck to those who are still hunting.😉 |

The Lee Enfield is to the Canadian north what the Winchester repeater was to the American west. Cal Bablitz
