Recently acquired from local gun show. Painted scabbard why red idk?? W S and what looks to be M-294,  H G stamped in the scales(looks like a 'G'). Still has remnants or original green paint.
Is electro etched with soldiers initials on blade "J T M", and last name on the tang "Manarik"
Couldn`t pass at $300Cad, up here  they`re selling from $500-$800

Any idea why the red paint, is it military or just to pretty it up. MP use maybe, asking because I`ve never seen red painted scabbards before.

After and intensive internet search, I could find no ref to common wealth scabbard use with red paint.
One of its previous owners must have liked red I guess.
Well its unique thats for sure.

I'm still on the hunt for a wartime poker for my 11/44 dated No5 that's never been FTR'd , nor import marked. The prices are crazy and generally conditions low from all the Malaysian used/issued beaters out there.

nice find

wilkinson made them and poole made them , wilkinson earlier and had three contracts - they made the most , poole later post war  , radcliff made some , viners made a few , and elkington made a few

mine was the latter with my FAZ late no5, but i did have the prior in similar condition with my BSA early no 5 ,

i just bought a 3/44 marked enfield no5 j. carbine w/ the matching bayo, both in great shape for $500 from a older gentleman from church. he knew what they were worth but knew i had regrets of not picking up the rifle 20 years ago when i last saw one so he gave me one he!! of a deal.  the bayo was on it when he took it off his gun rack. pics of them are on the no 5 jungle carbine thread. bayo. has 355 etched in the wood. no other markings.
