he!!o All,

I am new to the forum and have narrowed down my choices to an Enfield no 4 mark II or maybe a no 5 jungle carbine.

I have been looking a researching many , many rifles over the past few months and have really taken to the Enfield bolt action guns.

I looked on gun broker, gun auction, guns international, simpsons ltd, and a couple of others. I am looking for something that I can use , shoot , take to the woods etc.

what is a fair price for a gun in fine to excellent condition. on average.

other sources for these guns is appreciated

Prices vary a lot depending on where you are. A really good condition one should be somewhere between $600~$800 here (mid Atlantic), but $350~$500 in somwhere like Arkansas.

Check local sports men's forums. And sites like armslist.com depending on the legality of personal transactions in your area. Also most guys selling them don't have the backstory or appreciation for the enfields as much as say American guns so just try searching for enfield not "mk5 or Jungle Carbine". Don't be too cautious like I said you can score so e very good deals when you put a little time in.

I own both (well, actually several of both) and if you're looking for a rifle to bring in to the woods for hunting, or even just target shooting, go with the No 4 Mk 2. On average they're less expensive than the No 5 and they're FAR more accurate. Best way to find them cheap is look for ones that have been sporterized. I got a No 4 Mk 2 made in 1957 (the very tail end of production) for $150 because of the furniture set on it. I've got maybe another $50 into it to restore it to it's original configuration and it shoots great.
