I've not had much luck on the Web figuring out what the markings on my Enfield mean. From what i read it should have a five digit serial, but it has a four digit one.
Here's a pic of the markings. The receiver says No 4 MK1 The stock has an 8 and a 9 stamped on it. I can't make out what's on the clip other than the serial number. Thanks in advance. |

Welcome to the Lee Enfield forum.
The rifle appears to have been re-serialized. Can you take a photo of the left flat side of the receiver. Also, an overall pic of the rifle, I’m curious if it has a screw/nut thru the forend forward of the receiver.
There should also be a serial number on the back side of the bolt handle. By “clip” I assume you mean magazine. |

Howdy from Phoenix Arizona 🤠.
If you would be so kind as to take a picture of the right side of the reciever. Specifically where the bolthead can be lifted out of the raceway. The cocking piece looks like a Savage made item and the original stamp on the magazine, from what I can make out is 15C3346 which is indicative of a Savage No4Mk1*

the magazine box could have been reserialized to any rifle in refurb and it shows a definite cancelation of what appears to be what goosic stated , savage origin ,
we need to see the right wrist and left receiver to determine rifle origin , left wrist appears to be the remarked refurb serial number but that date could indicate BSA or Maltby , Savage and Longbranch maybe , number scrub should show more i would think

der_fischjaeger. If you would be so kind as to supply us with closeup photos such as the ones like mine of the areas circled in red please? I have a couple of hunches here, but need closeup photos of the areas indicated from my supplied pictures please. One last request. How many grooves does the rifle barrel have? Two or five?...

The vast majority of Savage made No4's have hollowed out bolt handles. This could be an early No4Mk1 No Star Savage made rifle...
