I managed to buy roughly 280 rounds of 303 British ammunition from a gentleman this morning. I bought it mainly for the 40 rounds of Norma ammunition, the rest was just a bonus. 103 rounds are Military Berdan Primed and stuffed with Cordite. The headstamp reads (POF 67 7).
I pulled the FMJ-FB bullet and weighed it. 172.9grns. It was loaded with 49 sticks of Cordite. "Burns Orange when lit." I highly doubt that I will ever shoots these rounds but, maybe for an emergency. I did find an empty Lapua box that did have 303 British 150 Grain S.P. Bullet Nerdan Type Priming in it. The fun fact for me is the 150grn loaded Norma ammunition. I pulled a bullet and weighed the powder. 43.0 grns. It gives a F/S of 2720 on the box. Cross referencing using my Norma reloading manual and it gives a maximum charge weight of 43.5grns of Norma 202 with a F/S of 2779. Nice to know when it comes time to reload...

Expect hang fires and no fires. Corrosive primers as well.
Can you post some pictures of the red box at the top and the red/blue hotshot boxes please?

The Red and White box had Berdan Primed Lapua ammunition in it at onetime. ![]() Never heard of the Bosnian made Hotshot stuff until today. The box of Winchester ammunition is kind of my favorite...

Is it headstamped "PPU" or "nny", or perhaps both?

Thanks for the pictures. Those are Igman manufactured rounds. Shame you are in the US, as I have none of those in my collection

I am debating with myself whether or not to pull the bullets from the POF ammunition or to just leave them be and never shoot the stuff.
The Hotshot stuff will be used at some point in time...

For what it is worth, the POF has zero collector value, other than keeping one specimen in the collection for the headstamp. Even sealed boxes are not worth anything more than the shooting value of the rounds.

I contacted Igman with the intentions of procuring some 303 British Brass. Mirada Kadic, Head of Sales @Igman sent me a reply that they unfortunately do not make 303 ammunition any longer and have not for sometime now...

I believe PPU and Igman were the same company prior to the dissolution of the former Yugoslavia. Here is a military contract round from PPU (note the Cyrillic nny is used) from 1985. Note they are using the British Mk 8z designation.

Yes they were 2 factories of the same company. The Civil War divided the countries & the companies became separate. Incidentallly "nny" is "PPU" in Cyrillic script, as near as it can be typed on a U.S. one.

(PPU/nny) and (Igman) are two separate entities and have always been according to "Mirsada Kadić" who is Head of Sales @Igman...

He is mistaken. Back when The Balkans & Mittel Europe were before the breakup of Yugoslavia they weren't! In fact the Cyrillic letters "nny" are the equivalent of "first resistance" (PPU) in our alphabet! ![]() |
