Hi guys, I just broke the ejector spring of my Longbranch right before leaving for the range...:( I wanted to check how some of my old cases were entering the chamber and it broke, bugger!! By chance I found a ejector set on ebay and bought it while, at the same time, some old fellow I just met for the first time here in Blenheim - who, by the way showed his collection of Lee Enfields, including some unfired ones (I'm still drooling) - called to tell me that he found one spring for my No4, which is very nice from him I had a look at videos about how easy/difficult it is to replace them and I'm not convinced it will be a piece of cake....am I right?? I don't recall any real problem with the extractor spring, Phil. Some say it's a sod, but the ones I did didn't put up much of a fight. I bought a bag of ten springs a long time ago and still have plenty. No 4 and earlier springs are different though.

| Agree, it’s quite easy to replace. I have done it by removing the extractor screw and pushing the spring out with a small flathead screwdriver from the front of the bolt head, reverse to install. |

You should take a close look at the back of the bolt head to observe the hole at which the bend of the spring emerges.It’s very easy to feed the bend into the wrong hole. ------------- There are no Americans in Baghdad!! |

You don't need to remove the screw. Poke or wiggle out all the broken bits so the "tunnel' is clear. Lay out the spring correctly oriented. wrap 2 turns of strong fishing line,or dental floss passing through the "U" of the spring & out he back of the bolt head. Wrap a couple of turns round a pencil, dowel, or screwdriver blade. snug it all up PULL HARD! the spring should just "pop" into position.  ------------- Don't shoot till you see the whites of their thighs. Hi Canuck, I'm very tempted to get 2-3 spare ones from you for my No4Mk1*, if that's the model you have?? What would you ask for that and would you ship them at my cost to NZ?? Cheers Philippe

Hi guys, Problem solved  I managed to put the new spring back in place. It was not easy at first but as soon as you understand that you actually have to pull backwards AND upwards, with a certain angle, it goes easy... Thank you very much to Canuk for the help getting spare springs and for the guidance. Now I'm a bit smarter than I was.....which is not difficult  The No4 is back in operation.....have 100 "new" Greek surplus waiting to be fired. Next weekend will be busy Cheers Philtno |
