Ok, this was also in the parts I purchased. I am at a bit of a loss as to what it came off of. In Skennerton's book the only rifle I see with two lower band pins on a ShtLE stock is a Cond II. However, browsing the internet I find MkI rifles with one, two or no lower band pins. All the metal on the stock set is Sparkbrook marked except for an Australian MkIII nosecap that has had the cutout modification. Unfortunately they used tape to secure the rear handguard to the forend and there are several minor repairs to be made, but I want to make sure that this would be an appropriate stock set for a ShtLE MkI***.

Bits got used and reused so much over the years that it's not so much a question of "Is it correct?" as it is "Will it work?". Honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to put that on a Mk I***. It would be closer to correct than say a Mk III* foreend.

i agree , only thing i see is it might be difficult finding the volleys to complete it but then maybe thats not important at this point ,

Thanks guys. I was able to positively identify it as a Cond II by the filled-in cleaning rod channel.  I am going to hold off for a little bit as I've only had the MkI*** for a few months, but it may end up on there as it is closer than anything else I have.  Volley sights are no issue, there were eight sets of pointers and rear arms as well as a few loose pointers in the parts lot, and I'm going to be sending a check off to BDL for the screws and washer springs soon.

my only Cond II is my 22 trainer , so im looking at that when i replied but i know thats the same era and i think it will be fine , but then its all about what you can find these days , mine was meant as a trainer for the early SMLE ,

It's only been a month or so, so it will probably be at least Christmas before I use this set if I go that route.  MkI wood is pretty rare but I'm fine with sitting on the rifle as is until I can find or have made the right wood, up to a point.  I have plenty of other projects to occupy my time until then!
