Hi. I've had this PH .303 for yers and always thought is was a sporterized Lee Enfield but now am not so sure. It is stamped Parker Hale Birmingham ERA 304637. Not much else is legible. Can anyone help me identify this? Thanks in advance. Ron.   |

Welcome from a fellow newbie Did it start life as a P14? It looks to be a Pattern 1914 that has been Sporterized. These are nice accurate rifles that are popular in the UK. They were a second line rifle in WW1 and WW2 but saw extensive use as a sniper rifle in both wars. They are popular in the UK because they were less worn out and battered that LEs as well as being more accurate, as such they found great favour amount the target shooting crowd. They are still very common on ranges here.

Its an Enfield, but not a Lee-Enfield, & its been sporterised. From what you posted I'd agree with Sinnlover. It's a Mauser auctioned rifle & pretty much nothing is interchangeable with Lee Enfields. Its also known as the American Enfield, Pattern 14, the Pat 14 & the P-14 & the Rifle No3 Mk1 (not to be confused with the Rifle No1 MkIII), just to confuse you!  Parker-Hale was an English gunsmith/maker & is still in business on the Bisley Range in Surrey. They made mods, sporters & conversions of all sorts of things & have a great reputation. | Many thanks to both of you! So obvious now that I see it. I bought this close to 30 years ago along with a 16 gauge shotgun and an .22 lr all for $90 Cdn. All were really rusty though. I took most of the rust off with the intention of learning to reblue. My how the time flies. I've since acquired two Lee Enfield .303s from the family and am now looking at all the .303 Br I have to think about whether I want to customize anything in any way. Haven't shot this one in years so I think it's time. thanks again. |
