From BOTR, who is usually spot on with his info.!

So this is the big issue with the charging geometry with the Sterling conversion No.4: the rounds actually need to end up with their bases behind where they leave the charger (I'm pushing it so its bottom end is as far back as possible.)

For all but the last round out, and sometimes the one before, the mag geometry takes care of it: the reinforcing ribs are cunningly placed to act on the shoulders of the cartridges. So you need to make sure you push the last one down and back, particularly if you're going to follow it with another charger. Otherwise bad things happen.

.303 cartridges fall out of the chargers and into the magazine in comparison (metric Italian chargers excepted of course).

Yet more proof that .303 is God's Own Calibre

With thanks to Finnish friend Jarno, I would not have tried this without his suggestion since it defies the laws of physics: Swedish Mauser chargers in the Sterling No.4 conversion: they float there in mid air but they feed far better and without any "knack" or funny business with the last round. Plus they're noice and slick and not Parkerised to death like the NATO chargers for which the charger bridge adapter is designed.

still chargers in my book , but ill defer to those that care a lot more - im more inclined to top loading a mag with chargers and a loos box mag with strippers as in the M14 & M16 as they attach to the the interchangeable mags , if the newer enfields have interchangeable mags ill defer otherwise i defer to normal enfield nomenclature ....wonder what tony might say ??

They are chargers...
The larger 10 round chargers never work for me, however the smaller black 5 round SLR / FN chargers do work on my rifle, my rifle does not have the Sterling charger bridge though.
Every time I see some of these charger I grab them, they are becoming scarce in usable condition.

That was kind of BOTR's point, that they don't work unless you know the trick to using them, but even then the other Swedish Mauser chargers actually work better!
I've used them for FAL magazines with the "spoon" adapter.

shoot me later but, Dead

Charger seems to only be a Commonwealth thing, everywhere else  they`re stripper clips, clips to hold ammunition that are used to strip the ammo into a magazine via a CHARGING bridge or stripper guide with externally held box magazines.

When I was in the Canadian Forces, the weapons instructor I had in basic taught us that the things that holds the ammo are called stripper clips, and that plastic thing that always breaks that goes on top of the mag that holds the stripper to help guide the rnds as you push them into the mag is called the charging guide, that`s why your ammunition will always be issued in preloaded plastic mags that also break at an alarming rate.....

So until I joined this forum I`d never come across such annality over nomenclature as trivial as a stripper clips or the white version Charger clip, you guys are racist...Shocked oh and by the way I own tons of both...

Disclaimer, this was written in fun, if I`ve offended anyone, IDC

Its not like I'm saying .303 magazine chargers are stripper clips!
These are for that funny rimless round from over the left side 'o the pond. Then again these are for that Feelthy Boche Swedish Mouser round!

You charge  a Enfield mag.

You use stripper clips to charge US mags.I

The others are eyecandy.

You take a dollar from your money clip and stuff it into the G-Sring of a stripper...

not me , those days are a long way back in life , maybe even a lifetime or two back , but i remember a couple bucks disapearin that way ,

these discussions are always fun , its good that we dont take ourselves too seriously , yet it also tends to reinforce our dedication to the proper nomenclature for enfields and why its important to the serious discussions thanks for the levity

One reason I like this place is we have a measurable sense of humor.
Many sites don't.

The fastest way to get a stripper to clip you is to lick and stick a $100.00 bill to your forehead when you walk in the door. Trust me on this!!

Want to piss off a stripper? When she's done doing her thing, toss a roll of quarters onto the stage...
