Among my many lunacies, I like to use surplus military gear when I check out my property. I look like some European soldier from fifty years ago as I go about. Traspassers are only encountered once (they NEVER come back, I scare the mailto:C&@P - C&@P out of them).
I have noticed the "What Price Glory" sells reproduction WWII British ammo boots, and am considering buying a pair. How are they as general "walk about" outdoors shoes? Are they comfortable, provide good footing, how do they hold up under heavy service?

I had a pair made here.I got help from Tony & my legion magazine, so the cobbler knew what to do.Mine are extremely comfortable.
Now - since they have hobnails - I DON't recommend walking around on your wife's hardwood floors. lol
Tony still has his from his service days. He'd be the man to ask for a definate on 'em.

I do not have a pair made by What Price Glory, but I do have a pair sold by Bayonet Inc.. I got them when they were on closeout a couple years back, so they probably do not have them anymore. If they are anything close to the Ammo Boots sold by What Price Glory, I have no problems with them. Actually mine are fairly comfortable, but like what was already said, they are hobnailed so watch out for slick floors, etc.
I think there was a later (1960's-ish to recent) version that used a rubber sole, think they are called DMS Boots. I have never seen them for sale this side of the Atlantic, but might be worth checking online for.

Ammo boots are great on dance floors they chew the wood to shreds! If you're thinking of hunting get the vibram type soles they grip on rock better and a hell of a lot quieter. Use a pair of ammo boots and you may as well hang a cow bell round your neck ! Current Issue boots are all rubber soled but if you know where to look you can still get the old ammo boots in the surplus stores. Great for clog dancing and stomping on fingers in bar room brawls

I think I read somewhere that the Guards Regiments still used hobnailed Ammo Boots to a small extent, so they might still be in production. I do agree if you are looking for a pair of Ammo Boots for daily use, I would buy a pair of the DMS (rubber sole) Ammo Boots. I would like to find a pair someday.

Yeah they do for ceremonial parades but normal issue is the vibram sole type. Hobs make a lovely crash when you slam to attention it impresses the civvies! Lets get real you wouldn't wear a red coat and bearskin plus ammo boots for anything else than ceremonials . Though word has it on the site some our colonial bretheren like to dress up but I don't think we'll go into that its a family site!

Oh well,
I'd be walking through the woods, muck and mire in them, probably get more noise stepping on a branch. However, they do need to hold up with hard outdoors use, without crippling me.

What Hoadie & I choose to dress in the privicey of our own Homes or certain bars is not the concern of the members of this board !
As for Hob nails ? You'll never wear out the soles of a pair of boots with them in place

Why else would they sent the scum of their society to the best country in the world instead of packing up and leaving their all so flooded country

Why in Gods name would we want to take over the USA? The USA wants to take over the world! With the Brits as their hatchet men. Besides word has it you have Terrorist problems over there! I hear The FBI and CIA are interrogating 3 Muslim maths teachers . They say its a new terror group ""AL Gebra ""???? Seems that are trying to decode the books they had with them to no avail. (y +x) 2

"AL-GEBRA"?? Dang ! Tony ! that was a direct hit to the funny bone!!!!!
I dont want to take over the world , I just want my gun room finnished so I can get my projects finnished and start back shooting soon as we have some new neighbors move in.
we lost 2 famalies from our little peice of paridise , they bought elsewhere, found good deals ,so what can you say. only problem , I dont controle the renting of them houses so I cant control who rents them. all I can do is start shooting the AK while they are looking at the houses. if they wave with a smile then I know they are good people, if they shake thier head and give you the cold shoulder then we just might have trouble.
God help them on X-mass eve ,New years eve ,4 th of july ,when we have Bonfires out in my Pasture. the noise I creat when i shoot the cannon off!! will scare the life out of them!!!!
I love my place in the SWAMP!!!!!!!
OH YEA! the Reverb the swamp makes when you shoot the Cannon at night is awsome!!!!

1812 overture Hoadie?
Right in my younger days when Noah was a lad the school decided to do a concert and the last piece of music was the 1812 overture. Everything was going to plan the audience was loving it then the final piece started. They'd rigged stage maroons in dustbins to sound like cannons and the teacher was there with his switchboard ready to start the bangs. Yours truly was at the back of the hall ready to leg it when the fun started.
The 1st bang got the audience sitting up in their seats and next thing there was a dusbin lid floating through the air on to the stage. The pressure wave from the maroon had flipped the lid like a frisbee. Another bang and another dusbin lid sailed on to the stage. They never did find out who'd slipped the bin lids on to the bins.

The Toronto symphony used to play Overture of 1812 on Toronto Island. They had the cannons in Ft York (circa 1812) timed so that they would fire & the sound arrive @ the right time.It was really something to see & hear...but alas, during the crescendo -those cannons have to be fired quite quickly, & since there wasn't quite enough of these Yankee fleet bashers available, speed was necessary.Unfortunatly one of 'em wasn't swabbed completly & when the lad stuffed the charge into the cannon-it ignited, sending his right arm out into Lake Ontario...which by the way ticked off the symphony & the guests, because of the improper blast, & it really caused a stir @ the Fort-losing they're rammer & all..not to mention the damage to the uniform!!
So then they decided to use HMCS Haida's guns. After all she was parked nearby. That didn't last long either, cause the symphony said her deck guns were too "modern" sounding, & DND said they couldn't afford the charges.(Our liberal gov't @ its best)
Ah-if ya didn't laugh you'd hafta cry!

Yeah-I reckon...Never did get his arm back.
Come to think of it, I haven't heard of those big guns being fired since(I could be wrong).
Its really quite a place to see(Ft.York)Them big ole cannons(I think they're 30 pounders) etc.Durin war of 1812, the Yankees sailed across the Lake & landed away from the fort. They surprised the British/Canadians there & overtook the fort quite quickly -while our side retreated north(quite quickly) thru York(now Toronto). the Yankees had a mind to loot & burn the town- much to the chagrin of the residents(already panicked when they saw our guys skeedadlin!)But - before they could get a real good fire goin, word came that a war party of 250 Mohawks was enroute & would be on them shortly - so the Yankees boarded they're ships & skeedadled.(They always feared the Indians more than us!)On they're way home, they just HAD to have a fire...so they stopped & burnt the village of Virgil.
