I have a BSA 1918 Enfield 303 rifle it didn't have a magazine with it so I got a very good deal on it . so now I'm having a difficult time finding a magazine that fits right. The last on I bought it will go in and function but it is extremely tight and I have to really fight to get it out. Can someone please help me figure which magazine I need to fit properly and come out when I clean it.the rifle shoots very good and pretty accurate for a hundred year old rifle. I can send pictures if it would help

Individual fitting of parts is a fact of L-E life I'm afraid.
But, if it helps, you want a magazine for a "rifle No 1 MkIII" or an "SMLE", or a "ShtLE". All different notations for the same rifle.
It should look like the one on the RIGHT with the grooves going all the way to the bottom & with the longer rib on the rear face.
The other one does not fit & is not interchangeable, its only for the No4 & No5 rifles.

these were not meant to be dropped and fed with a new box mag , they were hand fitted to the rifle and were meant to be charged from the top with the chargers , that said if you having issues with the box mag you bought to replace a missing one - read above and others will aid you in fitting a new magazine box which should then remain with the rifle eternally ,

edited to add that you will get expert advice here on exactly what to do and why , do use the correct box magazine to start with tho ,

Thanks for the info but when I bought it it didn't have a magazine this one I bought is so tight I'm just scared if I leave it in for any amount of time I won't get it out at all and I do like cleaning my weapons from time to time including magazine and mag well.....

Is it the right one that you have now Cameron?
As in, does it look like the one on the right in Sham's photo above?
It sounds like you May have a No 4 magazine.  These mags do on occasion "sort of" fit, but as you say, they are Very tight and bind at the sides and front corners.
Do a search on something like, "Fitting a SMLE Magazine", and see if that helps.

Let us know how you get on.

Yes its like the one on the right it looks in similar condition as the one in the photo I have ordered another one should be here Monday I just hope it fits a little better I can live with a little tightness but not like the one I have.if the second one fits I'll try to refit the first one hope it can be referred. Thanks to all whom helped ease my mind that at lease I have the right box to work with.
