So I recently picked up my first Enfield. After some extensive cleaning (not done yet) and inconclusive research, I thought I'd reach out for everyone's thoughts.

What I know:
No4 Mk1
Stock has "Ishy screw"
Not Savage

What I don't: Pretty much everything else.

Any insights are very much appreciated!

More pictures to come, as soon as I get this figured out. Also the complete rifle upon reassembly.

Appears to be a Maltby or Fazakerley rifle, ROF is Royal Ordnance Factory.  Someone should come along here soon to tell us which.

Thanks. FWIW it has the five groove rifling, not two.

That is Pakistani, it looks to me. From what I see it is marked 54/POF/Serial# on the left side of the receiver. Am I reading that correctly? If I am then that is a Pakistani No 4.

You are correct. Serial Number is BO7235 with a F51 on top. The serial number is stamped on the left wrist, the left receiver, and, if you squint just right and use your imagination a little, it is stamped on the front of the stock.

On the butt-stock, there is T•S (initials?), the number 1935, the number 358, and one more that I can't quite make out.

Ahhh, I forgot about the Pakistani rifles.  Did they actually produce any No. 4 Mk I rifles?  I read that they may have, so this could be very rare.

Yes, the Pakistani's did make the No 4 Mk 1 but how many I am not sure. I'll have to hit the books for that. I know it's much easier to find a Pakistani Mk 2.

Side note for those who don't know, the Pakistani's purchased all the manufacturing equipment for No 4 rifles from the Fazakerley factory.

The rifle looks quite rusty. Questions: How does the rifling look? How does the furniture/stock appear on the inside?

It is just a little bit of surface rust. The rifle was covered in..., um, given that it is a British gun I believe the technical definition is "cack". As such I've been using rather strong gun cleaners on it and there is zero oil left on the gun. I'm also cleaning it in a basement, so not the driest environment. I'll use something more mild to clean the last of it and polish the rust off. Then re-oil it and put a little lso on the stock. With any luck I'll have it back together tomorrow.

The rifling looks ok to me. Was a little hard to get a picture as I don't have a bore light yet, but here are a few attempts.

"cack"
is actually Indian, (Urdu maybe?) but yes that exactly what it means!
Evil Smile
As in "cack handed" bastardized by Tommy Atkins to mean left handed. Because in the Middle East you only do one thing left handed.

Reassembled, as requested. Rust is gone, a little oil on the parts. Also put a little lso on the stock, though that job isn't really complete yet.

Skennertons book on page 236 shows a POF No. 4 Mk 2.  He says that the POF only did rework programs (FTR) and remarked the receiver.  So not of POF manufacture.  Reworked Mk 1 rifles have been known to exist as well.

If that is the case, is there any possibility of figuring out where it was manufactured? Perhaps the serial on the wrist? Or was pretty much everything scrubbed in FTR?

Where the rifle was made originally or where the Pakistan plant was that scrubbed the rifle clean and put their own stamps on it?
Wah Cannt Pakistan. I think that is how you spell it.
Pakistan had a habit of scrubbing a rifle clean of all existing serial numbers and then stamping their own into the rifle. From there it gets truly hazy as to who manufactured the rifle originally.  Pakistan recieved all the tooling and machinery from Fazackerly.  There is the highest of probabilities that your rifle was originally manufactured at the Fazackerly plant only to be sent to the Pakistan plant for a FTR,"Factory Thorough Repair," and then had all the Fazackerly stamps and serial number scrubbed and then reissued with P.O.F. stampings. Ironically and still technically a Fazackerly rifle going through a FTR on Fazackerly equipment, just in another country...
