Putting to gether my 1942 No.1 Mk.III* Lithgow package. I picked up a Lithgow bayonet dated 1941 in very good shape I compared it to the Wilkinson I have the lithgow looks to be of a superior quality.

i was told that when the bayonets were being made at there certain places (orange, lithgow etc..) that the bend tests they did were 2 times better than the british bayonet bend tests. is that true?

I wouldn't knock the Japanese steel. Some of you may not know this but the katana carried by the officer class in the Jap army was capable of slicing through the cooling jacket on a vickers machine gun. The American army modfied their close combat drill after they found out the Katana could actually cut through the barrel of an M1 if the guy tried to block an overhead cut from the sword. As for the bend test any blade properly forged and quenched will be flexible enough to bend and spring back again. I was born in Sheffield UK heart of the Uk steel industry and saw a lot of the blades being made when I was a lad.

Golf is a waste of a walk Cricket is a waste of time. When they start on with the comentry about he slipped one down the gully ! Who has ever seen a gully in a cricket pitch???? Golf its a birdie!!! You shoot birdies!  Only term I understand is a HOLE IN 1!!! I'll leave you lot to ponder on that but enfield doesn't come into it.   As for battering the poms at cricket it was Freddie Truman ( another Yorkshireman like me) who was the scourge of the Aussi batsmen.

ps I'm the only guy who ever turned up at a conservation conference wearing a t shirt with the logo " If it flies it dies !" written on it.
