Subject: 5 round magazine

I recently acquired a Mk4 No.1 and aside from my general enthusiasm and love for the rifle, I would also love to use it for hunting. That said, my state in the US is a bit vague on the regulations when it comes to rounds/magazine size. We're allowed a maximum of 6 rounds (5 in a magazine, 1 in the chamber) but it doesn't state exactly that a 5 round magazine is required. I have a few 10 round magazines and as long as I only load 5 in the magazine at a time I should be good (In theory). That said to avoid any over scrutinizing over the regulation, I figure if I can find a 5 round magazine that just makes everything easier. I have read on a few different sites that Pro Mag used to make one, but it is also very difficult to find. I have also read there was Sante Fe Enfield made for sport hunting in Japan. Along with the second find it seems there may be magazines made by the same company that would fit a Mk4 No1.

I figure this would probably be my best bet to find someone who can point me in the right direction at least. Any assistance is appreciated.

Howdy from Phoenix Arizona Goose-man. The 5 round Santa Fe magazines you referenced have become what we here refer to as Unobtainium due to the sky rocketing prices they are fetching now. Your best alternative is to make yourself a small block of wood filler to place inside the 10 round magazine under the follower spring that cannot be readily removed with disassembly of said follower and spring. Hand fit it so that ONLY five rounds will fit. That way your local game and fish warden cannot accuse you of anything that goes against their rules an regulations regarding magazine capacities. There is a place in the UK, RifleMags.co.uk that sells 5 round mags but the last time I checked they were out of stock...

Yes the 5 round mags are bringing big bucks but your best bet is to watch eBay and maybe you’ll get lucky.

Wish I would have kept the several I sold ….

& some of those "5-round magazines" may hold one or two in reserve!

It took a bit of doing but, I made my own 5 rounders.  One looked similar to a Santa-Fe and the other looks identical to a Parker Hale magazine.

I made one like Goosics with the middle section cut out. Works good. Make sure you clean up all welding slab from the inside of the magazine!

That has got to be 50 hours in work at a $15 per.

But well done either way.

I still have to tune up the magazine for my New 1945 T I'll use one of the Santa Fe. magazines to proof it.

Getting back on the horse slowly.

These came from riflemags.co.uk. Very minor tuning to get them to feed properly...

Home made but I got the idea in Portland. Last summer I spent several months there in hospital but it was not safe to go down town. Gunfire all night and most of the day too. On the next roof over choppers were delivering bodies all night and day too.

Don't know how the world missed it all ?
