I have a a Faz on it now and will due until I find an early SM or S marked sight. I`m bidding on an SM41 sniper (Holland and Holland removed the peeps off them for scope clearance); I`m sure it`ll end up being bid too high for my budget of $100, but who knows. Be cool to have even though its still not correct for this rifle. I`m making the assumption that every piece on this rifle besides the receiver and barrel are Singer parts marked SM(41) so the rear sight was most likely a Singer made one. They are out there and my search continues.

With the scope fitted the rear sight could not be 'lifted' to remove the bolt, so not only were the battle-sights removed but a curve was ground into the underside of the sight to allow the bolt to pass under the sight with the sight in the 'down' position. Its a good way to check if your No4T has its issue rear sight, or is someone has been changing them around.

| shiloh: I have two Fazackerly stamped and one Savage stamped rear sight that has the main peep sight removed. All three are, "blacked out" completely blued so no shiny bits gave away the shooters position if the scope was not in use. All three have the undercut so the bolt can be removed with the scope in place as well. Let me know if you want the Savage made sight... |

You can fact check this with Mr.Laidler.
The undercut you described was only done by base armorers and not by H&H because the BMOD frowned upon the absurdity of the idea. If the base armorers were caught making the modifications, a fine and penalty was leveled against the protagonist |

I was aware that the work was not done by H&H and apologise if my post suggested they did. Thank you for the reminder - it was indeed Peter that told me about this, but I did not recall that the armourers who did it were penalised. The snipers had a pretty free reign as to what they could ask for and what they were given, even to having non-standard Mazac butt plates on their 4Ts so as to not have any problems with light reflections, when, it was the norm for the Mazac butt plates to be removed for general use because of their brittleness. |

I`m not building a telescope rifle, the sight I require which is correct with peep intact are SM41. I`m only bidding on the SM sniper sight because it would be cool to own.

The micrometer sight was made by different facilities and were not specific to a certain rifle from my understanding. I was informed that whatever micrometer rear sight was picked from the bin regardless of manufacturer was installed on the rifle. The following photos show the Poole manufactured sight, "with undercut" that came off of my 1943 Savage...

In early 1941 pickings were slim. The war department requested all Mk1 sights from North America and they were put into use by 1942, there was a shortage and Singer was behind due to their Clybeank factory being bombed, the flip sight was incorporated until the other plants started getting the mk1`s in production probably 1943, BSA then started producing the stamped version, they did make milled sights as did others. The SM marked sights are only seen as `41, `42, and `43, after which the regional contracts came into effect and markings were changed to N67. Singer also made both types of front sight protectors straight milled and waisted(sm41) Longbranch also made these. The straight milled are also seen as SM`41,42 and 43. It would seem regular production goodies started in earnest in 1943. And from what I`ve gathered CR#`s are post WW2 contracts,

I believe each of the #`s after the CR represents the identity of the part, under the post 1946 ministry of supply system B1/CR2063 of identification, in the `50`s it was changed to the nato stock system 10005-99-xxx-xxxx 1005 weapons and parts 99 country of origin, eg 99 UK, 00, 01-10 being USA, 20,21 Canada etc. the last 7 are supply chain and what it is. I was a supply tech for 10 yrs Canadian Army 2 Svc BN attached to a combat group, I saw lots of Nato parts with original WW2 BB part numbers and B1/CR numbers reassigned their new nato numbers.

An early BSA `B`Marked from a collector acquaintance I`ve been dealing with for a few yrs now in the UK. Stuffs running out, get what you need now while the prices are, well not terrible. |

Do you have an E over D Enfield Lock one, I`ve only ever seen one yrs ago. There`s an SM 43 on ebay right now if interested.
