I need a No1 MkIII Forearm. I have been searching for 2-3 weeks now. All I can find are DP forends of which I have been warned against here. Even ones listed that don't mention DP I can tell they are. I have found a few new made ones as well, but I am not really wanting one of those either. I have tried all the normal parts places as well as some more obscure ones. No luck.

Anybody here have one or know where I can find one?

Thanks, Scott

Thanks, but almost everything he has listed on eBay is for a No4 with the exception of one No1 forend. It's a reproduction and $270.

Give this man on eBay a shot. Nothing used or DP marked. Just brand new wood. It is pricey but well worth the investment...

Thanks. I have looked at those sets several times. I'm just not into brand new wood for an old Military rifle. Not in my budget either. All I want is good used wood. If I had known it was this hard to find a forend for a No1, I might not have taken up this project. I just might have to get a DP forend and hope for the best.

Just look very closely at any DP Forends.
The Wood used on DP rifles was used because it was (itself) not usable on a service rifle, it could be warped, damaged or out of spec.

Extract from the "Instructions To Armourers" regarding DP woodwork.

Use of DP woodwork :

 20. Repair of rifles No. 1 D.P.—Provision of stocks and handguards is made for the repair and maintenance of No. 1 D.P. rifles. They are supplied, as required, on demand through the usual channels. These components, marked “D.P.”, will not be used for the repair of rifles other than “D.P.”. Serviceable stocks and handguards must not be used for the repair and maintenance of “D .P.” rifles. Unserviceable stocks and handguards from service rifles which may be considered as suitable for “D.P.” rifles will be accumulated locally at Command Ordnance Depots and held pending the visit of an examiner from the C.I.S.A., Enfield Lock, who will finally sentence and mark them. Serviceable components, other than stocks and handguards, may continue to be used for the maintenance of “D.P.” rifles provided that the cost is unlikely to exceed the cost of factory repair with “D.P.” parts plus cost of transport of the rifles to and from the Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield Lock.

Decent serviceable No1 MkIII  wood will be as deer as the new wood if you can find it. Even procuring a deactivated rifle to harvest the wood will be costly. I can never figure how deactivated guns could demand such prices, as they are essentially junk.
My thinking with the Apex stocks would be to scrub the marks and repair and refinish to suit. Just saying. The ones with the rear sight ears are probably the better of what Apex have.
Tree yrs years ago, I found a very nice WWI fore stock for one of my projects and it wasn`t cheap, and needed a fair bit of attention.
Good luck in your search.

Better to go to Prestigeous` wed page, his ebay pricing is sometimes a tad steep.

Alot of "Aged/Used" good furniture for the Lee-Enfield such as yours end up in a hoarding situation and lost to the outside world  leaving individuals to either purchases questionable wood or new unblemished wood while paying enormously high prices with purchase of the new wood being the better option however.
As an example of the hoarding situation. I personally know an individual who lives in the metropolitan Phoenix area who owns between 35 - 45 SMLE rifles, dated between 1915 and 1944. For each of those rifles he has a minimum of 3 spare stocksets, "just in case" something were to happen to those rifles which happen to be sitting in a walk in vault that is bomb and fire proof.

You have your options layed out for yourself as presented to you by our forum members here, including myself. Good luck on your quest and may the odds be your favor...

Thanks everybody. Not sure what I will do yet. I was hoping somebody here had one. I'll just wait it out to see what I can find. No big hurry really. Maybe I'll just wait until smerdon42 gets back from Australia. Lol!

Wow Was just at prestigious site, the layout has changed and they`ve increased their pricing quite a bit, in some cases by almost $200Cnd.
They`ll be pricing themselves out of business.
Used to be an affordable alternative to good original wood, but now original seems cheaper than their stuff.
This game is becoming unaffordable for the average work-a-day Joe.

Gossic, I have an acquaintance who`s a collector of all things Canadian Militaria, huge collection of enfields, sniders. martini`s, parts, bits and bobs, he could open a store. Will he share with spares, nope. So yep the enfield hoarders are out there, and effectivly make the stuff scarce and expensive.
There used to be soooo much enfield stuff here in Canada, and not that long ago, not so much anymore.

Yup. I just now left their sight. Expensive for sure. Also the added cost of shipping and time to the U.S.

I know quite a few hoarders here as well. I know a gut that has literally 100's of M1 Garands and many thousands of NOS spare parts for them. He won't sell any of it and he is in his 80's

Taking this thread a bit off tangent here but. I have a Marlin 39A Centennial Model 22LR.  I have had it for years now and shoot it every now and then when the feeling hits me. It maybe has had a brick of 22 shorts through it to date but, either way,  I am considering doing a mummy wrap on it now because the last 39A I saw on Gunbroker sold for $1150.00 USD and the buttstock was cracked. Mine is scoped with a Parker Hale 3-9×32 so maybe sell the whole thing for what $1450.00 because my stock is not cracked and has a cool scope with a panoramic view?

As I`m continually looking for parts I`ve not seen any, anywhere, besides DP stock which may be your only option at this point for original wood.
The only other viable option is new reproduction.
The old parts are rapidly disappearing. Like yourself its becoming ever increasingly difficult for the average joe to repair or restore these old rifles.
I have a reproduction top set, hand guards if interested.

Yup. Going to keep looking for options. Hopefully something will pop up.

Thanks for the offer. I am going to wait on the hand guards until after I procure a forend. Want them to kind of match as close as possible.

Ok, at this point I may just get a cheap cut down sporterized forend to get it shooting until I find a good one. Anybody have one of those laying around for sale?

That's an interesting option. Thanks.
