Will be interesting to see if this issue pops up world wide with this ammo and lot#. Being a foreign manufacturer, it may be tough to nail them down on this. Or if lot 015 was only sold into North America.

| If I had some of this ammo, I’d do a hardness test on the case head. Pretty hard to overfill a 7.62 case, and if they had used pistol powder, they would have bulged or burst the barrel, probably blown out the bolt too. Sure looks like a gas escape of normal pressures. |

The sad truth here being that with all the warnings on a box of ammunition that in Lawyer Terms mean : "User Beware," trying to pin the blame on the manufacturer becomes moot. The main issue I personally see is that the OP's M1A is chambered for commercial 308 ammunition whereas he has opted to use 7.62x51mm ammunition. The very first warning on a box of store bought ammo usually states that you should only use that ammunition in firearms in good condition and designed and chambered for that cartridge. Remember all of our arguments about 7.62 vs 308? In Lawyer Terms, he put the wrong ammo in his gun and broke it...

From my understanding 308 is higher pressure than nato stuff, 7.62x51. So if his rifle was 308 chambered then it wouldn`t mater. If that ammo was loaded to 308 spec and packaged as 7.62x51 spec then there`s a problem. So the onus of proof would be on the the shooter to prove he did every thing correct and the manufacturer of the ammo f`d up. And usually they won`t budge or comment on their product until there`s a potential of a law suit. Bad press is bad for business. |

IMHO, the difference between 7.62x51 and .308 alone is not enough to blow up a rifle. There is something wrong with this lot of ammo. | All I was attempting to illustrate here from a legal standpoint is that there is nothing he can do. Simply put, 7.62x51mm NATO M80 Ball Ammo is not Commercial civilian use .308W ammo. If the rifle says "Chambered for .308W" and you have a catastrophic failure because you chose to use 7.62x51mm NATO cartridges the ammunition makers defense attorneys will explain to you in all their legal jargon that you should have used the correct ammunition... |

I'd personally want to see some of that & another lot pulled down & the components checked out. Legal stuff notwithstanding if there's a significant difference (different looking powder, large variance in charge weights Etc.) we're off to the races.

| I have been using NEW Norma, Starline, and Lapua 308W cases and fireforming them to the 7.62mm chamber in my No4Mk1*. Even with all the precautions in place and my reloads being right at the very minimum charge weight, I will still have a handful of those cases rupture. A full length sized 308 case sits differently in a 7.62mm chamber and vise-versa. |
