I recently picked up one of these and I can confirm that these are a very well put together rifle.  The trigger breaks at 3lbs when she shoots. My eyes are too late for the factory sites so I mounted we a Leupold vx3. I intend to carry this beauty during Novembers rifle season.

Folks have been mounting scopes on their rifles for decades.
It seems to pick up as we age more and our eyesight depreciates.
Besides, just about every article or YouTube video on this particular rifle has been scoped. One thing wrt mounting a scope on the 1885 is hammer clearance so medium to high rings are better off.

She shoots like a dream and carries well

This might be a good subject to get one of the "Period" scope repros!

I bought a Lithgow "clone" sniper rifle with a side-mounted Malcolm scope on it. Love that rifle!

is not Malcolm mean " son of Mccallum"?

My wife is from that clan.

Small correction if I may.
"Stalking" is essentially the British term for what Americans call "Hunting", It may, or may not involve an actual "stalk", but the term "hunting" was already in use for Fox Hunting, riding to the hounds, The unspeakable in pursuit of the Inedible".
So, a "Stalking rifle", would be a "Hunting rifle" in American vernacular.

In B.C. we had 'Stand' hunting and 'Still' hunting.  Hunting from a tree stand was popular and effective in some open areas so one could wield a longer and heavier rifle since they weren't humping it up a mountain and back.  Still hunting involved stalking game where you would quietly walk in the forest for a few yards then stand still to listen, look, and yes, smell for game.  Still hunters preferred light, handy rifles since they might have to take a snap shot at game startled in any direction.  Stalking infers movement to find the game so a 'still' hunter would appreciate a good 'stalking' rifle.  My favorite rifles were a Savage 99C, a BLR, or a Ruger No. 1 when still hunting and a Browning A bolt for stand hunts.  If I was still still hunting I'd buy one of those Ubertis.
When Mr. Boddington was working up handloads for his rifle he should have availed himself of the tremendous wealth of knowledge on websites such as this and started off with Varget in his search for accuracy.  40 grains + or - 1/2 a grain is the sweet spot for the .303 British and 174 gr. bullets.

I like the looks of the Malcom 6X Short rifle scope.
They show one mounted on a Win 94, looks right up my alley.

Yeah, much nicer than some high tech Taktikewl monstrosity.

I’d too be hard pressed to mount a scope on a Quigley had I owned one. Now if I had a matched pair, giddy up lets go!
