I decided to see just how accurate the 174grn FMJ-BT PPU projectiles are by using 41.7grns of that dastardly VihtaVuori N540 Double Base Smokeless Propellant, Winchester Large Rifle primers and, a C.O.L. of 3.050".
Range to Target: 303 feet. Because why not?
Rifle used: Frenchie/Maltby No4Mk1
Optics: BSA Platinum 24x44 target scope.
Rifle was bagged front and rear with the shooter/myself seated.
No sighters, just a Cold Bore shot followed by 9 additional rounds. I did allow for 3 minutes between shots.
Cold Bore shot was centered in the Red but to the right of center. Making a minor windage adjustment, the remaining 9 shots made a nice little group.  I only had my teenager with me for validity.
As a sidenote.  I talked to "P" at Capstone Precision Group, the main US Distributor of VihtaVuori in regards to the Nitroglycerin content. Because that is "Proprietary Information" that information would not be able to be share that with me but, it could be openly discussed that it "could" be between or, similar to, the Nitroglycerin content/Precentage of, Norma 202 or 303-B propellants. FYI: Norma 202 has 4.5% Nitroglycerin and Norma 203-B has 7.5%...

According to Norma Precision, their own 202 propellant and VihtaVuori N540 have near identical burn rates as compared by their ballasticians. The assumption that VihtaVuori has followed the path that Norma has taken using a scant 4.5% Nitroglycerin content seems plausible. I can see a prematurely worn out barrel from overexcessive and repeated firings but to blame a powder seems highly unlikely. My dad has a rifle chambered in 220 Swift. The 220 Swift is still an absolute tack driver since it was bought new in 1970. The particular Norma Powder my dad has used for that caliber has a 7.5% Nitroglycerin content. Even with a documented 4200+ FPS his rifle remains as accurate as it has been...
