Could anyone advise what these number on stock mean. The characters look like P1 10 and below that there is 21  11  73
These characters are upside down when the rifle is held

Well, you aint giving us much to go on here...is it even an Enfield?
How about some pics? THAT would be a good idea.
It sounds like a rack #.
(But for all we know you could have something completley different)

On a No4 rifle the rifle serial number is stamped on the forearm.

Looks to be a Pattern 1853 Enfield rifled musket. This forum is for the bolt action Lee Enfield, a completely different rifle.

May be someone here that can tell you more about it. Might be a commercial variant.

what is stamped on the lock plate?
looks a tad rusty, but fixable, I'd say.
As for the markings on the stock - probobly a rack #

The lock plate looks like its been filed as there should be a manufacture date over the England.
Is there a number engraved on the butt plate tang(top)?, is there anything stamped on the stock behind the trigger guard?
Also the stock looks as though it has been refinished, There should be a cartouche stamped on the butt stock if military.
The number stamps could indicate rack number, and or upgrade/referb/inspection dates, ie 11/Nov/1873 and Feb/1875.
Are there broad arrow markings on it which would say it was owned by the British army.
Calibre indications, .577 or 24 indicating .58, barrel length @ 39"?
Lot of question to indicate what to look for to identify what is was intended for, military, civilian or export ie US civil war, Colt dumped a bunch after they didn`t get a Union Contract(40" barrels)
Confederate imported rifles had 1121 on the butt tang as well as on the clearing rod close to the jag end.
Maybe more will chime in on this. But probably best to inquire on a forun that deals with 2 and 3 band Enfield muskets.
