he!!o. Newb here. Was wondering about a lee- enfield i purchased . Can anyone help identify these markings please .

Welcome aboard!

MA is the factory code for Lithgow, which is a factory in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, NSW, Australia.  This factory produced Australia's Lee-Endfield refiles.  

SMLE is the abbreviation for Short Magazine Lee Enfield and the II is the mark number.  However, this should be III* given the year of manufacture (1940). 

Pictures are a great help as sometimes things are not what they should be, especially is someone has been tinkering!
