It's interesting how perspectives can change. I spent the first 2/3 of my life living, working, and serving in Canada. I always had a deep affinity for the United States and would have gladly seen Canada join the U.S., a feeling shared by many of my friends and family. I was born and raised in and around Vancouver, B.C. and believe it or not, back then B.C. was relatively conservative with the ruling party being the Social Credit Party run by W.A.C. Bennet, then later by his son Bill. I watched ruefully as B.C. politics began a slow slide to the Left where it is now firmly entrenched. I'm now living in the U.S. and became a citizen in 2010. I would vote against Canada joining the U.S. if given the opportunity because Canada is irrevocably a socialist nanny-state nation and we already have enough problems keeping our own Commie Democrats under control. I'm afraid too many Canadians would support the American democrat party and America and the world wouldn't survive the U.S. turning socialist. What are your thoughts?

I was also born, raised, served in the Canadian Forces and worked in industry in Canada. I moved to the US when I was 36, became a Permanent Resident in 1997 and a US Citizen in 2013.
I have much the same point of view. I would guess that 70% or more of Canadian voters would vote for the left leaning democrats. It would be enough to tip the balance and the US would end up with a permanent far left government. I also still like the idea of Canada being a sovereign nation with it's own identity. Canadians like to identify themselves as "not Americans".
I don't know what percentage of Canadian citizens would go for this anyway, I wouldn't think it is anything close to 50%.

Moot point..Canadians want too much (healthcare, pensions etc) from the gov't. They would never get it from an American gov't - so there you are. Add to that the indigeonous people's demands for property, rights & restitution - & you would have a completely untennable situation. Now Quebec is raising the spectre of separation - again! Instaed of QUEBEC holding a referendum on separation...maybe the rest of Canada should hold one instead...Find out if WE want to keep them! My guess is overwhelmingly LEAVE!! For all their belly-aching, demands & bitchin they just aint worth it!

They get more federal $$ than any other province. They force French language on the rest of Canada.(All food products have to be french labelled costing us MILLIONS!! ) They're constanly coming up with new demands for the rest of Canada to meet. Don't even get me started on they're Bloc Quebecois Party!! In ANY other country in the world, a polictical party who's agenda is to separate would be held for TREASON!!

I went to "Monreal" monthly when we photographed the wrestling circuit up there. This back in the 80's. I really grew a strong dislike for the people there with some of their French-speaking shenanigans. I am almost bi-lingual in French (& Picard) so when they switch to the heavily accented (to me) French I start deliberately mangling French (or Picard), which annoys them even more. I absolutely refuse to use high number counts in French, because in Picard there are Cinquant, Soissont, Septante , Huitonte & Nononte!
I agree we don't want the current Canada.

The Quebec referendum should be voted in by Canadians... Nobody outside Quebec cares a whit aboot them, but they get the most in government transfer payments.

I dont think Canadian in general relish the idea of becoming the "51" state. Most everyone I`ve ever talked to view the USA as a meddling Country, the reason there`s un fettered terrorism and likely the cause of a pending world war.
On the other hand some say if it wasn`t for them the world would be far worse off. As for me, this is were I was born, live and raised my kids. I served my country proudly and never considered jumping ship.
This country is far worse than it was and i`m hoping it will improve for the sake of my kids and theirs. If I`ve offended anyone, it was not my intention.

I think that’s a fair assessment of what the large majority of Canadians think, and probably most of the world too.
It’s impossible to know what the world would be like if the US had not risen to the super power it is. WWI and II would have been much longer conflicts, with uncertain outcomes. Had Russia developed the nuclear bomb first, who knows where we would all be. Would most of the west be under Communism by now? Maybe so.
But, I don’t personally believe the US is the reason for the Russian/Ukraine war if that’s what you’re referring to. However, the weak US response to the Russian threat of invasion did not do anything to deter it.

Seems to me that in WWI the U.S. wasn't yet a "super power".(& they were a tad late to the party). By the time WWIIrolled around - twas a different story.U.S. industrial might paired with resources made for an emerging Super Power. The Germans & Japaneese were both working on Atomic bombs. The Russians achieved theirs through theft of secrets from the U.S.(As they & China seem to do frequently). Theres no doubt the U.S. is now a "Super Power" but they have competition. As well, there seems to be no shortage of people with high security clearances selling info to the Russians & Chineese. They in turn give it to the N.Koreans & other terrorist bent groups. We are at the point whereby I'm not sure any country - superpower or not - is safe. The proliferance of WMD's around the globe in irrisponsible hands pretty much seals our collective fate.

Hoadie, I wasn't saying the US was a super power in WWI, or WWII for that matter. But it emerged from WWII as a super power.
WWI that changed the isolationist policy of the US. And I think that was for the best in my opinion. The 2 million troops they sent over made a significant difference to the outcome of that war, it would have undoubtedly dragged on longer.
WWII would have been entirely different; although possible the allies would have eventually prevailed. It was German scientists that developed the rocket technology and would have likely come up with the nuclear bomb to put in it if the war had gone on a few more years. If the US was not involved in that conflict, no telling what would have happened to those German scientists, probably all annexed by Russia.
Lots of "what if" scenarios here, and no way of knowing what it would have been like without US involvement in those world conflicts.

I suspect France wouldn't want much to do wiv 'em..just like when they lost to the British here. After the Plains of Abraham had solved the issue, many french wanted to go back to France. France told 'em to get stuffed - they weren't welcome. So, they went to Loiuisiana.

They didn't help themselves with France when they gave "Le Bec" a hard time when he came over last time. "
Prime Minister https://www.encyclopediecanadienne.ca/fr/article/lester-bowles-pearson/" rel="nofollow - Pearson
went on television to tell de Gaulle that his statements were
“unacceptable to the Canadian people.” The newly appointed minister of
Justice, https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/pierre-elliott-trudeau/" rel="nofollow - Pierre Elliott Trudeau , asked what the French reaction would be if a https://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/prime-minister/" rel="nofollow - Canadian prime minister
shouted “Brittany to the Bretons!” After these rebukes, de Gaulle cut
short his trip and went home. Madame Vanier realized to her distress
that her old friend felt no gratitude for past help. Prior to de
Gaulle's celebrated trip, she had sent him a single message: “1940.”
General de Gaulle’s statement would mark — and tarnish — relations
between France and Canada for a long time to come. In many respects, his
July 1967 visit had a profound impact on the https://www.encyclopediecanadienne.ca/en/article/nationalisme-francophone-au-quebec/" rel="nofollow - Québec nationalism of that era."

"The Nose" was more than arrogant. That S.O.B. believed HE was the saviour of France - not the allies - in WWII. & I don't think it was so much "He" cut his trip short..butmethinks (IIRC) he was "advised" to leave by his host.

A little of both I think. When I was living in France they were still reeling from the loss of "The Colonies"! "Le Bec" giving away Algeria made him roundly hated. "Al-gé-rie Française" would start a bar fight in many places. I was living in a student apartment (Bed-Sitter/ Studio) in an area heavily populated by Algerians & others from French Africa most of who were attending "Académie Militaire", which was in the area & actually it was called that by many because that was the Metro stop. It was a great place to have a "Un pied de terre", Really a community. I have some great stories from those days. The joke was "We only get tear-gassed every other Wednesday! We're Moroccans"! Which was true, none of your wimpy CS, this was CN fired from APC "water cannons".

I hope Prime Minister Pierre Poilievre can turn things around for Canada. What I hear from my many friends in Canada is that it is getting harder and harder for each successive generation to enjoy the same level of prosperity as the previous generation. Every generation has had its malcontents but when the number of discontents gets too high bad choices are made and too many people start believing the siren song of Socialism.

well , its done , the changes are in process and there is going to be changes , we are going to have common sense and bidens last minute pardons that are "preemptory" will get a court review and probably go away based on past supreme court ruling that said it would only be valid after conviction , sentencing , etc he cant pardon someone for something they have not been investigated , charged or convicted of , i believe these will fail , and i dont believe biden had knowledge of them , there has been someone or something running our country for the last four years 0- not biden , he has been lucky to find his slippers to go p[ee in the morning ,

Sure makes his family look guilty…
And I think you’re absolutely right about Biden, I don’t think he had any idea what was going on. He said himself that “he did what he was told”. He could barely string a sentence together, and most of the time didn’t know where he was going. A shame really that this went on for his entire presidency.

Read this yesterday, in a nut she!!, the statement said if donald duck imposes tariffs against Canada, Canada will shut off electricity and oil flow to the US. That`s all we got thanx to Trudeau, financially, we ain`t got a pot to pi$$ in.
But I believe the threat is real. Then donald duck can amass his forces and annex Canada, and take Greenland while he`s at it. Like Biden, I don`t think those who actually control the US will allow donald to do Jack $hit that involves interfering with the sovereignty of other nations, unless he really wants to start a major conflict. And that he will if the latter is not so.
Today for the first time in my life I`m actually afraid of what lies ahead. No man can fix what dosn`t want to be fixed!

It’s all posturing to make a deal. There will be no annexing of Greenland or Canada by force or otherwise. I’m actually encouraged by this change. Woke bs is dead in the US government. It will take a while for the slew of executive orders to take affect. Take Trump seriously, not literally.
Unlike Biden, Trump will exercise leadership and control of the Executive branch of the US government. The complete opposite of the last administration, it’s very evident watching how these two very different presidents talk to the media.

We're not snowflakes here so straight talk won't offend anyone although it might garner a response. I didn't leave Canada, Canada left me. It started with PM Brian Bullroney the so-called Conservative who enacted as much gun control as any Libtard politician did. Conservative Defense Minister Mary Collins made an election promise of building Canada's first Polar 8 icebreaker, to be built in a North Vancouver shipyard. Well, it was unseemly the haste in which that promise was reneged after she won her seat back. Another Conservative PM, Kim CampBowel was indistinguishable from the insufferable Liberal Minister of Justice Alan Rock during her term as same. So politics aside, I struggled to make ends meet economically while living in Canada, having to sell my first house in the early 1980's when mortgage rates went through the roof. After my move to Texas I have experienced nothing but prosperity and satisfaction for the most part with my state's and country's politics...even more now that Trump is back. It's easy to demand loyalty from a country's citizens but when that loyalty isn't reciprocated then don't be surprised if an exodus begins.
