Does anyone know if removing/recounting a catco scope mount from a 2A1 could flex the receiver enough to change the fit in an epoxy bedded stock, or degrade performance? Thanks!

Sorry, missing context. This is not an original rifle. It was sporterized 25 years ago and I'm re-accurizing it for my son. The sporter stock and scope mount needed significant work and its shooting fairly well now (3" 10 shot groups at 100yd) but I have high standards. I've read and heard stories about how enfield receivers were made with as little metal as possible and are prone to harmonics and flexing. It got me thinking that since I started with the stock bedding and ended with the scope mount modifications I might have changed the receiver dimensions enough to require a redo on the stock bedding. Thoughts?

Okay, sorry for the delay, here are a couple of mid-modification photos I had handy which should demonstrate my concern. The grub screw at the front end (top left in first photo) of the mount bears on the receiver and presses rearward, to provide tension against the rear sight bridge (?) on the receiver. My concern is that there could be some downard flex/distortion of the receiver as a result of this force, and removing/reinstalling (especially after altering the mount) might change that distortion enough to impact the way the receiver nestles into its bedding. Is this just unfounded concern on my part, or am I onto something that I need to pay attention to here?

| You have to loosen that screw to remove the mount. I'm worried about possible changes to the force applied to the receiver. I didn't remove the mount using a torque wrench, so it's unlikely to be torqued to the same tension as before. |

I'm just thinking that a spreading force across the top of the receiver might be bowing the while thing in a downward arc to a greater or lesser extent than when I bedded the rifle. I agree that it should be stable as long as I don't remove the mount... I don't mind rebedding if it's needed, but I just don't have much free time. I'm convinced I can wring more accuracy out of the rifle than I'm getting. At this point that's the end goal. Since it's not worth restoring to Original I don't have much guilt about doing what's necessary to make it a good field rifle for my kid.
