I bought this gun which appears to be from the Middle East and it has a Snider but the firing pin action was removed and a musket nipple installed . it's a "Cap and Ball" rifle. Anyone know anything about this franken gun? Thanks

i believe shamo has nailed it on this one - the snyder conversions made the older muzzle loaders breach loaders with cartridges ....retrofilting to cap and ball sounds very much kyber pass to me as well ,

if you uploaded the picture successfully you should get to it (Browsing) by clicking the tree icon & looking at the list on the left. Simply click on that & an image to verify should appear in the right panel. If its the correct one the OK & it will be posted into your current posy at the location of the cursor.

I never saw "Browse" ! I decided to resize my picture which was accepted. It had to be done twice . There has to be something I'm missing here.

have to upload from your files to this system , it works quite =nicely

Well it's different than many of the sites I belong to. In those ,I put the xd chip into the tower and it uploads the pictures. The sites have an icon ,usually a paperclip . You click on that, and pick a picture ,click on that and it's uploaded. If you've done ebay , you know what I'm talking about. Here , everyone says click onto "Browse". I never saw "Browse" no matter what anyone told me to do. I clicked on the tree, uploaded the pictures and then when I clicked "Upload" it said I had to use "Browse". Didn't say where it was or how to find it ,just had to use "Browse" to post . I just think it could be simpler.

bottom left under the list of filenames.
It may not appear if you only have one file.
Basically it means "search". If you only have one directory on you card it may not appear, just scroll down to the filename you want.

there's a limit on maximum file size, maybe you were over it?

Interesyting rifle - definetly a snyder action on it - not sure what to make of that one ,

Ah, it’s an Egyptian Police Snider, configuration of which says it’s a smoothbore “shotgun”.  Can’t say why the FP/nipple conversion, ammunition availability either liberated from a policeman or last ditch in the armory to keep it functional…..

it was an effort to refit it to C&B from the snyder FP , im thinking someone had no cartridges or a source for them in the future but had access to caps and balls as well as powder ,

how times have changed ...............

not knowing the era it was converted nor when it was stored i cannot really comment ojn the thinking of that time but it seems illogical to me ,

I would lean more towards a backwater EP “armourer” conversion to cap & ball, rather than official Citadel.  The supply of British Snider ammo probably ran low in some far-flung outpost, but BP muzzleloading components may have been more readily available.  I’m not sure if Egypt ever produced their own Snider ammo, but they did produce .303 for their later EP Martini-Enfields.

The goal was to make the EP weapons fairly unusable in the event of capture by criminals, hence the EG MkIII shotguns & their proprietary cartridge.  So an underworld conversion of this Snider isn’t impossible, but I’m not sure how likely exporting such a weapon from Egypt would be versus all the obsolete EP guns mentioned above.

interesting thoughts , im not at all sure what to think on this one - never seen one like that - did have a couple snyders tho

The EP Snider “shotguns” can vary slightly, but cut-down forearm, underbarrel rib, simple rear sight, early breechblock, and handmade sling swivels (that don’t really fit any kind of sling very well) are all pretty spot-on.  Never seen one converted to percussion though!

well , its been an interresting conversation ppiece even if it might be one of a kind thats not kyber pas - im still going to lable it in that catagory til one of yall tell me you hae proof otherwise ,

it would take some work to take a conversion of C&B that made it a caeridge rifle to change it back to C&B - with no point i can see nor any reward i can see -

unless you are in a country with weird laws thAt make things seem different than realty of guns are inantimate its the people that hold them that are the problem ,
we have more guns here than people i think , its always the person and tjhe left is avoiding that because theyt are leftist people that are commiting the crimes blue thinking , blue areas , blue leaning voters are doing the gun crimes

ask gov walz - it was leftists that killed our kids , it was leftists that burned and looted MPLS , it was always leftists causing the trouble in the nae of free speech ....what about the rest of us and our free speech ? just wondering
