I've been on the lookout for some time for a correct early Enfield, pre-1914. One that could have gone to France in 1914 with the BEF. I really like the Mk. I with the floating charger and volley sights.  So, I've been scouring the internet running the same searches. Then,,, I ran across a couple of dealers in the UK. Hmmmm... That's a possibility. So, my question is: 1) Has anyone done this and how'd it work out? 2) Was the description accurate and do you feel that you got what you paid for? Your best bet is to go through an existing importer because the paperwork is an expensive PITA.  Asa for the quality of the description that's going to vary with the individual seller. ------------- Don't shoot till you see the whites of their thighs. (Unofficial motto of the Royal Air Force) |

I have imported from the UK, but not into the USA; I live in France. (It was prior to the UK leaving the European Community). There is a bit of paperwork to do in the UK for exportation, before they can send the firearm. I got a specialist agent in the UK to do the paperwork. Basically it requires an export licence, which, at that time, took around 6 weeks. In France, we also have an Import licence requirement, which requires Police approval etc. So total time from purchase to receipt was around 3 months. Regarding finding a 1907 Mk1 SMLE, I believe most of the British frontline regiments were using the MkIII by 1914. I have a Mk1* that is all matching and all original wood. It shows light wear and tear, so must have been used maybe as guard duty etc. (it's not for sale). The Mk1* is a rare rifle in the States. In all my time of going to shows, over forty (40) years,I have never seen or held one. The hunt goes on. |

buddy started an import of an Imperial German Naval gewehr from germany last year. It took 10 + months with the paperwork , fees etc to get to a dealer stateside and then to him. I have a friend in Nevada with a fairly decent Mk1 SMLE...super scarce for sure. A dear friend in Upstate NY managed to piece together one from nearly five Mk1's he encountered over the years. All came out of Canada many years ago. A buddy in Florida found me my 1911 SMLE , matching , marked to the K.R.R. in Florida 30 years ago. 1914 and earlier Smellies in original trim are all very very scarce indeed.
