he!!o,
I'm looking to purchase this No.1 Mk.3* and was hoping someone could tell me more about it. I'm concerned with the DP on the stock but, it has a newer looking import mark on the one side which I would think make it shootable. Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

FR = Factory Repair.
Something had to be fixed at a high enough level it went back for major work.
AS always take great good care & caution with anything with "DP" stamps!
Are there ant "DP"'s on the metal?

I think this rifle is a conversion to Mk II spec.  I see a bolt release tab, but also a * on the receiver.  So, I'm not sure whether this was originally a Mk I or a Mk I*.  The DTE on the Butt Stock is an Indian Post independence ownership marking.

I did not see any DP stamps on any metal parts.

You’re thinking No.4s, this is a No.1 MkIII* that was scrubbed of its original markings when it was refurbished in India in 1944.  The TDE stamp, as noted, is post-Independence Indian, and the forearm with tie strap corroborates features later than the FR’44.  All in all, I’d bet this was restored from a sporter using DP furniture.  A beer says the nosecap doesn’t match, hopefully the bolt actually does or I’d walk away from this deal.

Of course.  I over-looked the lack of a rear sight.  It helps to see the entire rifle.

Hi, I have a 1950 GRI No.1 MK3 Enfield rifle in nice shape. The swivel band is stamped DP. This is the only part that has the DP stamp. Should I be concerned about the DP marked swivel band?

Front swivel band, or something else?
Any non pressure or load bearing part might be fine, but with anything "DP"d double check & take reasonable precautions.
There was no "standard" for what was done to make a rifle "DP" so it might be nothing apart from wear, or metals could be de-tempered & so on which wouldn't be visible checkable.
ALWAYS Fail/SAFE

i agree with shamus caution , i would suspect that part got switched out with salvaged parts from a DP rifle by some previous owner

Thanks, Shamu and A square 10 for your replies. I probably will buy another sling swivel.  Does anybody have any recommendations for a good place to order Enfield No.1 Mk3 parts.

Personally, I'd be concerned about the 'Z' stamped into the receiver ring which could possibly denote needing repair.  Ian Skennerton mentions variations of the 'Z' stamp in his book: "The Broad Arrow Mk 2".

I was wondering about that, but can't decide if it's a prefix letter ( the serials went from "00001 to 99999 & then had a single advancing letter as the volume increased "A00001 to 99999" followed by B then C & so on or the dreaded "Z" (Returned to armory for condemnation series).

Thanks again Shamu for the list of gun part companies. I looked on Apex's website, and they sell a front swivel band with "DP" stamped on it for $26.50.  Looks like the same swivel band that's on my Enfield now.
