first post here so excuse my lack of forum prowess, anyhow, im building a No.4 rifle and the stock bolt doesnt extend as far as i would assume one should and am wondering if the one i have is some sort of shorter variant? i believe theres a shorter buttstock and a regular length buttstock but i wouldnt guess that the bolt would be produced in a different length right? the one i have is about 12.25-12.5 cm long, a little under 5 inches, is this normal??

Is it "wasp waisted", or cylindrical?
it may be one for the No5 Mk1 Jungle Carbine?
I don't know of any length variations in the stock bolts even though the stocks came in 4 lengths & believe the bolt tunnel was the same on all of them.
Are you be chance thinking of it protruding past the butt socket, like the SMLE' did? that doesn't apply to the No4s.

yeah its cylindrical, tryin to figure out the image feature on here lol, id say the bottom of the bolt stops about half a centimetre from the end of the stock, and thats without the spring washer installed, my only thought besides the actual bolt length would be that the flat washer isnt installed all the way down but it wont move any farther, theres also a (i believe) “X” marked on the neck of the bolt, could this be indicative of something?

There's supposed to be a spring washer down in the hole in the butt-stock (see drawing attached) could there be 2 in the old dried on grease? part No 49
Wacko

well yeah that’s what i mean, i have a spring washer and a flat washer but if i have both in the stock then the bolt won’t go far enough to thread at all so the bolt itself is just too short. i bought the buttstock and the bolt parts individually from apex and see no extra parts at the bottom of the channel so should i just try ordering another stock bolt? how long is one supposed to be i guess is a better question?

edit: what i meant when i said i didn’t have the spring washer in with the photo is that thats the only way i could get any thread, but i assume the amount of threading shown probably wouldn’t be enough to keep the buttstock safely fixed to the receiver.
