Or sold as that on Shotgun News(I believe) in the mid 90s. Long Branch 1942. Does anyone else have one? Can anyone tell me anything about this rifle? No.4 Mk1 *

What are the factory markings under where the bolt handle rests?

I don't see any.

Looks like a sportered No. 4 Mk I

Look on the left flat surface of the receiver for markings. May also be a serial number on the left butt socket.

Picture is not too clear.  Certainly not a No. 4 T or L42 which is the .303 and 7.62 Sniper rifle respectively.

Nah. "Buy the rifle, not the story."
It a civvy sporterised fantasy gun.

Yup, a sportered No. 4, worth a few hundred bucks at most. The only good thing is it appears the barrel was not chopped and the backsight lugs still intact. Would need a fore-end and a few other bits to restore it.  Or, keep as.

Our late member TONY was a Falklands vet.
He told us they had Brens issued for the festivities because they had a shortage of lite machine guns. The FN was the standard infantry rifle.

The L4 variant of Bren in 7.62 NATO was issued to supplement the GPMG, plenty of photos of it from the Falklands.

Fair enough. Thank you all for responding. 'Falkland sniper' is not my story. It was how the gun was advertised, I will say tongue in cheek, in shotgun news, nothing more. If I believed the story, I wouldn't be asking. But for me, it wasn't about the story, but how many were sold like this, and if anyone else had one. The ad said it was factory-sporterized.  And yet, I haven't seen one quite like it yet.

No one with any clue about Lee Enfield accuracy would attach the sling to the barrel!
So it's obviously a bubba job!
It was a No4 Mk1/3 by the look of the receiver and stock cross bolt.

Agree with Shaun, this is not a “factory” sportered rifle. Though it appears to have the full length barrel and the action body has not been cut up, so could be restored to factory configuration with a replacement fore-end, hand guards and barrel bands. Would need a backsight too.

It does look like a cross bolt in the first photo, but the second photo shows that it is, in fact, a tie strap.
