Well I have been talking with a fellow to me local off and on for a month and pulled the trigger on a post war No4 rifle. Kinda paid more than I'd normally , but the condition is above 90% , perfect bore , 100% matched .            No4 Mk 2 (F)
                          3/54 [PF 375420

It still had the century Arms booklet tied to the rear swivel. Old century import mark on barrel tip that also says Made In UK.
Came with a No 9 bayonet  , though matched scabbard not to the rifle  , PF 331239.
Do I have someone's matching poker or does someone have mine ?.

This is weird. My No4MK2 12/54 [PF 332602

How does yours with a 3/54 date have a larger serial number than mine made later in the year? You sure that "7" isn't a "1"? The bayonet serial would make more sense for the 3/54 date though.

My bayonet isn't serialized. Just says D-53. I got mine new in wrapper/cosmo too.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can provide the answers...

Fazakerly is notorious for being all over the place in this time period.  I have tracked numbers varying by 30,000 serials across 2 years.  Have heard a few possible explanations, hopefully Lance’s new book can shed some light.

Once you’ve noticed, you can’t unsee it.  Go look for more!

nice looking rifle - what we can see of it , somewhere i have a list of the FAZ contracts and the serials that fall under each , there were rifles made outside these known contracts as well , ill see if i can find my list

Probably the blocks of numbers were reserved for the various contracts at that time.
Delays in agreement or urgency may have created the order of production to be altered.
Obviously just speculation on my part.

Can we see a pic of the entire rifle? It looks nice and not the blonde beech it seems.

Over on Gunboards someone posted PF 3682xx with a 1953 date.  They did not specify month, so not entirely helpful.

Also 1/55 dated PF 337646.

The numbers seem to run in 2 sequences, each of the ones posted in this thread line up with the one in this post & my previous post.  Just taken in context of the ones they make sense paired with, not altogether, which gives the appearance of 2 different production runs.  Or different production lines, which has been alluded to.

A detailed list of dates and s/ns are available in Part 2 of my No. 4 book which breaks down some of the reserved s/n blocks with out of sequence dates.

My copies of the three books arrived last night!  Looking forward to going thru these over the Christmas break.  I've got a 1950 PF and 1956 UF No. 4 Mk 2.  Both are Long Branch DCRA 7.62 Conversions.  Wished I still had the original .303 barrels for them.

I'm about to receive a pair of Fazerkley No4 MK2's that I probably paid too much for (they're in pristine condition).  I'm told, but haven't checked, they were part of an RAF contract run from 1955.

UF 55 A 9077
UF 55 A 9078

Hope that helps.

Best,

I suspect it was a while ago then.  I saw a pic of one of the rifles with the serial posted on another enfield forum 10+ years ago (Lance was also participating in the discussion) and it appeared to be the same person that sold them to me.

Best,

9077 arrived yesterday and I took it to the range.  It seems to like PPU 180gr SP ammo.  That was me shooting a 5 round group seated at about 75yds from the target.  The rifle looks brand new.
