Well I went to a louisville Ky show today thinking , nah nothing to fond at a Ron d**kson hammer clicker and tire kicker show. Typical stupid pricing on enfiled bayonets of all types. Handful of real decent looking No4 rifles but all way over $800. Saw one fellow with a BSA dispersal for $550 , but it ha dbeen post brit refinished as no bright parts anywhere on rifle , and stock looked cleaned. Did not look to hard at it .
Anyhow stopped at a fellows table looking at some martini cadets and he had a couple pistols at the end of the table and I saw one  -a large frame smith had a lanyard ring with a barrel slightly longer than a US model 1917. Went right to it and it's a smith in 455 with brit proofs , mint bore and cylinders , uncut , no import buggering , and matching. He asked $795 and I asked him how low he'd go. Got it for $750. It's got a fair amount of holster wear . This sure looks like it was carried in the trenches o minimally carried alot while in british use.  Got home and used up the last 12 factory fiocchi 455's I had instead of my better quality reloads. I bought two boxes of Fiocchi 455 a couple years ago and it's some real low quality ammo. Lots of bang , then weak rounds and in 100 rds I got two squibs  one today even that I used a rod to tap it out of the forcing cone. Glad that factory Fiocchi is all used up now - garbage ammo but good brass , although it uses small primers. I did meet and old timer I have to email as he said he had some webley holsters at home he would sell !!!!!!. I hope he is not nose bleed on them.  Well , enjoy the pictures.

As you can see the Smith factory numbers on crane and frame match #3732. And the British applied serial to Butt , barrel and cylinder match . Really happy to have found it !.

This is a 6 1/2" barrel so does this more likely make it a canadian issue piece ?.

I thought 6.5” was standard on these, sure you’re not thinking of the 6” Canadian pre-Victory Models?

No I was not aware of 6" victory models. I had read a blurb that the Canadian issues were 6 1/2 , but if it was standard all the better.

I’m just basing it on the fact that the MkI was adopted as 6.5”, I make the presumption the MkII would have followed that standard.

And “early 6” Canadian” certainly fits the pre-Victory story to a “T”.

I signed up on a S&W forum  a good fellow gave me a link to. It's definitely a British issued pistol , MK II 2nd model , 3rd version ( of 4 versions ) .A pistol about 1k serial numbers less was sent to the brit war office so this pistol was likely in that batch  in July 1915 . If this thing could only talk !.

I wanted one for a long time, but prices & finances never seem to align.  Had a S&W 1917, but it just didn’t do it for me.  These HEs just ooze history.

i had one of those once a long time ago , was a really fun revolver and the S&Ws were really well made , it once wore a very nice finish as well ,

Very nice!

I used to have a Colt New Service Canadian issue in .455 Eley that post war had it's chambers reamed out to .45LC.   Fun for a while but I traded for a Colt 1917 in .45ACP.
